π¦Ά Winter can be one of the toughest seasons on your horseβs hooves.
Wet paddocks, muddy gateways and changing ground conditions can all increase the risk of hoof issues such as thrush, bruising and abscesses.
The good news... A few simple habits can go a long way in supporting healthy hooves throughout winter!
πͺ Pick Daily β Remove mud, stones and manure to help keep hooves clean and allow you to spot any issues early.
π§ Manage Moisture β While you canβt control the weather, providing access to dry areas where possible can help minimise prolonged exposure to wet conditions.
π Check Often β Keep an eye out for heat, tenderness, an increased digital pulse, foul odours or changes in your horseβs movement. Early detection can make all the difference.
πΏ Support Nutrition β Healthy hooves are built from the inside out. A balanced diet, quality nutrition and regular farrier care all play an important role in maintaining strong, healthy hooves.
Remember, no two horses are the same. If your horse develops sudden lameness or you suspect a hoof abscess or other hoof condition, always consult your veterinarian or farrier.
