Brett wrangled a pretty chunky red-bellied black snake this morning that decided a cozy camper in Williamstown looked like a great place to hang out!

Not exactly the kind of guest you’d want joining you for breakfast! Luckily, Brett was on the scene quickly to safely relocate it. Just a reminder—these guys are highly venomous, so if you spot one, give us a call and let the professionals handle it!

Barkly Tablelands Death Adder Shedding!

We were planning to post a catch video tonight, but something just as awesome happened—one of our Death Adders started shedding right in front of us in the snake room!

It’s not every day you get to see this process up close. A rare glimpse into how these incredible reptiles shed their skin!

Any questions about the death adders, don’t hesitate to comment 👇

Would you believe this hiding spot? Look closely!

This cheeky little Eastern Brown found its way inside a home in Blakeview, and in the short time it took Brett to get there, it had already wriggled into this tight spot. These snakes are quick—and full of surprises!

As I’ve mentioned before we are based in the Barossa ourselves but with our network we are able to serve greater regions if the need arises!

Good work Brett!

Hot off the shelves — brand new action figures just dropped!

Well… not really. Just jumping on the trend!

But seriously, wouldn’t recommend handling any snake like that — let alone an eastern brown!

Exciting news!

Some of our Barossa Eastern Brown Snakes make an appearance in this stunning documentary by Living Zoology!

I highly recommend watching the full video — it’s beautifully shot and packed with incredible snake encounters — but if you’re keen to see the eastern brown segment, skip ahead to around the 13-minute mark to catch footage from our Christmas Day filming last year.

While the AFL footy might be drawing crowds to the Barossa this weekend, some curious snakes are still making moves of their own!

I had a callout in Nuriootpa today—not the trickiest snake I’ve wrangled, but getting to him was a mission! A couple of 2-metre fences later, and the job was done.

With this summer-like weather still hanging around, snakes are staying active—so keep an eye out for our scaley locals. If you spot one, give us a shout!

And hey, a callout to Barossa Park during the AFL wouldn’t surprise me either—we had to relocate quite a few snakes during the development phase there…unfortunate to be honest!

Beautiful Eastern Brown in Williamstown Today!

Got called out to a local business this afternoon to safely relocate this lovely eastern brown. Even though the weather is cooling off and snake activity is starting to slow down, they’re definitely still out and about.

Remember, snakes don’t want to hurt anyone—they don’t chase people, and they certainly don’t go looking for a fight. Most bites happen when people try to handle or harm them. If you see a snake, give it space and call a professional.

Stay safe out there, and keep an eye out—our scaly friends are still on the move!

“Brown snakes chasing people?”

I gave this big fella every chance to chase me during the release—and surprise, surprise, he went the other way.

A lot of people think eastern browns are aggressive and out to chase them, but that’s not the case. What’s often happening is a defensive display. When they feel threatened, they might rush forward or stand their ground in an attempt to create space between themselves and the perceived threat (you).

As soon as they feel they’ve got that space, they’re gone. But in that split second of defense, most people are already running—and the last thing they remember is the snake looking fired up, not it making a hasty retreat.

Give them a bit of room, and they’ll do the same for you.

Yesterday gave me a real shot of hope for the next generation.

We were called out to a local primary school to relocate a baby eastern brown that had found its way inside. After safely securing the little guy, a group of curious students asked if they could see the snake—from a safe distance, of course.

And you know what the first thing out of about 10 of their mouths was?
“How cute is he?!”

Honestly, I thought that was bloody awesome. Took a few minutes to chat with them about snakes, safety, and how important they are to the environment.
Such a great reminder that education and curiosity go hand in hand—and the future looks pretty bright.

Definitely not the kind of surprise you want to wake up to—a large brown snake making itself at home in your bedroom on a Wednesday morning!

We got the call and made a quick trip to Eudunda to safely relocate this fella back to a more suitable habitat.

Dogs and cats in the house too, the customer did a perfect job of removing pets and closing the door with a towel at the bottom, textbook!

I’d like to think I’m getting pretty good at handling these comments! 😂

Most of you here already know what we’re all about, but when our videos take off, the keyboard warriors start rolling in.

Normally, I just let them be—but every now and then, it’s fun to drop a witty response! And these sort of comments do more for my motivation than getting me angry!

Remember: A good snake is a live one!

This juvenile Eastern Brown had a close call with a dog yesterday, so I kept him overnight for observation.

Thankfully, he was in perfect shape this morning and ready for release back into the wild. Take notice of when I point out the different tongue flicks, always cool to see.

Beautiful little snake and always a privilege to see them up close. Dog was fine as well 😊

If you’re local, you’ve probably noticed the weather shifting! As temperatures drop, snake activity is changing—most species around here are grabbing their last meals before settling in to brumate for the cooler months.

We’ve still got plenty of content coming your way, including a special release video this afternoon—so keep an eye out!

Over the next few weeks, we’ll do a full season wrap-up, but for now, we just want to say thank you for all the support. This season, we’ve doubled our call-outs from last year! With the help of Brett's Snake Catching & Relocation - Adelaide Hills and Owl's Snake Removal 0459 061 479 Adelaide plains, we’ve been able to take on more calls and help more people.

A lot of this growth is thanks to word of mouth and I would also like to think our professionalism which unfortunately lacks considerably with some of the shoeless cowboys out there.

Also I suspect theres been a rise in calls due to the dry conditions bringing snakes closer to homes—not because there are more snakes than usual (which, as I’ve said before, isn’t the case).

A massive shout out to Claire and the team from The Vet Clinic in Angaston for their amazing care with assessing snakes for release ect.

Thanks again to everyone who has reached out, shared our posts, or recommended us—it truly makes a difference!

Check out the belly on this fella!

This Eastern Brown has had a decent feed—my guess is a lizard of some sort. What do you reckon?

While Eastern Browns of this size primarily hunt rodents, they’re opportunistic feeders and won’t pass up a meal if the opportunity arises. Birds, lizards, and even other snakes are all on the menu!

21/03/2025

Just a little reminder...

There are plenty of these little guys around at the moment!

This freshly hatched eastern brown snake was found inside some high-end accommodation, In the shower of all places!

You might hear about eastern browns laying anywhere from 10-40 eggs, which can sound alarming. But in reality, only a tiny fraction survives to adulthood. It's just nature's way of making sure the species continues.

We always appreciate a good-looking red-belly!

They’re not always this vibrant—some have duller bellies, and we’ve even come across melanistic (all-black) ones out Williamstown way.

We don’t get called out for red-bellies as often as browns, and that’s just fine by us! It usually means they’re thriving in their natural habitat, typically near permanent water sources, where they feast on amphibians (and sometimes even other snakes).

Eastern browns, on the other hand, are far more common in residential areas since their primary food source—rodents—is abundant around homes.
