🐾 Happy International Dog Day! 🐾

Today is all about celebrating the dogs who fill our lives with laughter, chaos, adventure and the kind of unconditional love that makes every day a little brighter!

For me, that means celebrating my two very special boys Rocket and Groot.

🚀 Rocket is everything you could expect from a Kelpie... and then some. He brings crazy (crackhead) energy, a permanently happy demeanour and an unwavering loyalty and love that I am endlessly grateful for. Life with Rocket means stopping to roll in EVERY patch of grass he comes across, being enthusiastically body-slammed the moment I walk through the door and watching him somehow convince Jasper that another wrestling match is an excellent idea (much to Jaspers dismay) 😂

He is my shadow, my adventure buddy and the boy who reminds me every single day to find joy in the little things.. preferably at 100km/h 💨

🌿 Groot, on the other hand, is always there to make sure you feel welcomed. Whether he's greeting you at the car or waiting at the front gate, his happy face is never far away! He lives for a good game of tug-of-war, a run or walk with Dylan and absolutely loves playing in a good puddle or two!

Both so different, both full of their own wonderful quirks, and both loved more than they'll ever know.

To the dogs who make life brighter, messier, funnier and infinitely more meaningful, today is for you. 🐾❤️

Happy International Cat Day! 🐈‍⬛

Today, we’re shining a little light on the incredibly independent and socially awkward black and white mittens we know as Jasper!

Jasper first joined the family as a roughly 8 week old, found on the streets with the worst ear mites I had ever seen! Somehow, that tiny, scruffy kitten went from rags to riches and grew into the most wonderfully dog-like cat I could have ever imagined 😆

He’s never quite understood that he’s supposed to be a cat… He’ll happily follow us up the road on our walks, trot along like he’s one of the dogs, and spend his days getting into wrestling matches with Rocket.. and then there are the mornings when you wake up to find him perched proudly on top of the headboard or bed side table staring directly into your soul… because apparently that is the appropriate way to start the day 😬

He’s cheeky, sometimes affectionate, ridiculously clever and has the biggest personality and somewhere along the way, he became so much more than just my cat he became a very important part of our little family.

I’ve had a couple of you ask about snake avoidance training and as we start to move into spring and the warmer weather our little snake friends will begin to make more of an appearance, Paws & Reward offer a practical and reward based workshop!

🐍 Snake Aware is now open for bookings!

Over the past few years, this program has attracted more criticism than any other service I've ever offered. I've received abuse over the phone, online, and even had someone threaten legal action simply because I used the term "snake avoidance." While the criticism hasn't stopped, one thing has become very clear to me: this program makes a real difference.

Every snake season, I hear from owners who are grateful they have practical skills to help reduce the risk of dangerous encounters. That's why, despite the backlash, we'll continue to run Snake Aware and keep improving it each year.

Like every form of dog training, no ethical trainer can guarantee an outcome. We can't promise a dog will never investigate a snake, just as no trainer can guarantee a perfect recall, loose lead walk, or agility performance every single time. What we can do is teach valuable skills that help reduce risk, while also educating owners about snake behaviour, prevention, management, and what to do if the worst happens. That's what this program is designed to do.

Right now, we're preparing for this season's workshops by organising fresh snake sheds, getting our 3D-printed snakes ready, and putting the finishing touches on the program.

If you'd like to teach your dog this valuable life skill, we'd love to have you join us. Please note that dogs need to complete Rapid Recall first. This isn't to make you do another course—it gives you and your dog the important foundation skills needed to get the most out of Snake Aware.

🌙✨ Client Spotlight – Kathryn & Gracie ✨🌙

These two have been part of the Midnight Paws family since my very first round of classes back in January, and what an incredible journey it has been!

When I first met Gracie, she was a little unsure of both me and her new surroundings. We took things at her pace, allowing her the time and space she needed to build confidence through slow and gentle sessions. Before long, she began to trust me, engage in training, and let her beautiful personality shine!

Since then, Kathryn and Gracie have graduated from two courses and are now halfway through their third! Watching Gracie's confidence, focus, and skills flourish has been so rewarding.

Each week I love hearing Kathryn share another training win, whether it's a big breakthrough or a small everyday success, each one deserves to be celebrated!

Kathryn, thank you for your continued support and for trusting me to be part of Gracie's journey. Your patience, consistency, and dedication have been the driving force behind Gracie's progress, and it's been an absolute privilege to watch your bond grow stronger with every class.
