🐾❤️ Yesterday, Franki donated blood for the first time at SASH!

She was a brave hero and got a certificate to prove it!

Both Canine and feline donors play a vital role in helping other pets during emergencies and surgeries. 🩸✨

Dog Donor Requirements:

✔️ Healthy and up to date with vaccinations, deworming, and heartworm prevention
✔️ 1–7 years old
✔️ Weigh at least 17 kg (over 25 kg is ideal) and not overweight
✔️ Friendly, calm, and obedient temperament
✔️ On regular tick and flea prevention

Cat Donor Requirements:

✔️ Healthy and up to date with vaccinations and deworming
✔️ 1–8 years old
✔️ Indoor-only
✔️ Weigh at least 4 kg, in good body condition
✔️ On regular flea and parasite prevention
✔️ Calm, easy to handle, and not stressed by vet visits

Double the cuteness, double the bravery! 💕

Meet Peanut & Buster, our October Pets of the Month!

These two sweethearts came in for their dental procedures (with a few teeth removed!) and handled it all like absolute champs. Buster also recently had some scans and blood work done, and was such a brave boy for it all.

Remy has shown us what a brave boy he truly is…more than once! From tackling pesky ear troubles to having four teeth removed during his recent dental procedure, he stayed calm, sweet, and full of charm the whole way through.

It’s heating up in Sydney, and this is just a taste of what summer has to offer! ☀️ Let’s talk about staying safe in the heat! 🌡️

As the temperatures rise, it’s super important to protect our pets from heat stress. Some are more vulnerable than others, especially brachycephalic breeds like Pugs, Bulldogs, Frenchies, Persians, and other flat-faced cats and dogs. 😥 Their short noses make it harder for them to cool down, even with all the panting in the world!

🔥 Top heat safety tips:
💧 Always have fresh, cool water available
🏖️ Keep walks short and stick to early morning or evening
🌳 Seek shade and avoid hot surfaces like pavements
🚗 NEVER leave pets in the car – not even for a minute!
❄️ Consider cooling mats, fans, or frozen treats for extra relief

🚨 Know the signs of heat exhaustion or stroke 🚨
⚠️ Excessive panting or drooling
⚠️ Weakness or wobbliness
⚠️ Vomiting or diarrhoea
⚠️ Bright red or very pale gums
⚠️ Collapse or seizures

If you spot any of these signs, get your pet into a cool space and call your vet immediately.

Let’s all stay cool, safe, and ready for a fun (and safe!) summer ahead. 🐾
