💊 Medication refill requests now available online via our website 💊 (For existing clients only)

How to request a refill:
1. Visit https://strathmoreveterinaryclinic.com.au
2. Click the three lines (☰) to open the menu
3. Select Medication Refills
4. Complete your personal and contact details, your pet’s details, and the medication details
5. Submit the form

Once submitted, we will receive your request via email and contact you using your preferred contact method when the medication is ready for collection. If we are unable to dispense the medication, a team member will call you to explain.

Pets on ongoing medication are required to be examined by a veterinarian every six months, in accordance with AVA guidelines. A member of our team will contact you if your pet is due for a veterinary review or if we need to clarify any information before dispensing the requested medication.

Please allow up to three business days for your request to be processed.

Puppy school is the perfect start for pups aged 8–16 weeks who have had their first vaccination! Early training and socialisation are key to raising a confident, well-mannered dog, and this is the best time to get started.

If your pup is already running the show at home or getting into a bit too much mischief, now’s the time to set them up for success.

Spots are limited, so don’t wait secure your place before your pup finds their own way to stir up trouble.

🐶🐾 Meet Dex 🐾🐶

Dex recently came in to see Dr. Aruna and couldn’t help but show off his fabulous skills! One of Dex’s favourite pastimes is swimming, he absolutely loves to swim, splash around, and have fun in the water.

Such a clever boy with a big personality to match.

🐱🐾 Meet Panda 🐾🐱

Panda belongs to Dr. Jördis cat and she recently came in for an abdominal ultrasound and colonoscopy with to investigate ongoing gastrointestinal (GI) issues.

A colonoscopy is a procedure that allows us to look directly at the inside of the large intestine using a small camera while the patient is under general anaesthesia. It’s used when pets have ongoing or unexplained GI signs, and importantly, it also allows us to collect biopsies from the intestinal lining. These samples are then sent to the lab for further analysis, which can help us better understand what’s causing the symptoms.

During Panda’s procedure, biopsies were taken from the intestinal lining to help guide further treatment.

🐶🐾 Meet Charlie 🐾🐶

Charlie came in recently for a check-up, as he has diabetes and requires regular monitoring of his blood glucose levels. This helps us assess how well his condition is controlled and whether any adjustments to his insulin dose are needed.

Charlie’s owners are doing a great job caring for him and making sure he receives the proper treatment to help manage his diabetes.

What is diabetes in dogs and cats?
Diabetes mellitus is a condition where the body is unable to properly regulate blood sugar (glucose) levels. This happens either because the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or because the body does not respond to insulin as it should. Insulin is essential for moving glucose from the bloodstream into cells, where it is used for energy.

Types of diabetes in pets

* Dogs most commonly develop a form similar to Type 1 diabetes in humans. This means they have little to no insulin production and require lifelong insulin injections.
* Cats more commonly develop a form similar to Type 2 diabetes, where insulin is produced but the body becomes resistant to it. Some cats, with early and effective treatment, can go into remission.

Common signs and symptoms
In both dogs and cats, diabetes can present with:

* Increased thirst (polydipsia)
* Increased urination (polyuria)
* Increased appetite (polyphagia)
* Weight loss despite eating well

Additional signs may include:

* Lethargy or reduced activity levels
* Poor coat condition
* In dogs: development of cataracts
* In cats: weakness in the hind legs (often seen as a dropped stance)

Early diagnosis and regular monitoring are essential for keeping diabetes well controlled and supporting your pet’s quality of life.
