Spring is just around the corner 🌿

Bloat season is fast approaching and we want to look after your stock!

Bloat is commonly caused in stock by the formation of a stable foam in the rumen which traps the gases produced during the fermentation process.

The accumulation of gases produce a distension of the rumen ( bloat ) which can lead to a decrease in pasture intake and consequently milk production.

If left untreated stock may die from the effects of bloat.

What are the signs of bloat?

🚩 Restlessness - kicking at sides, shifting position standing and lying repeatedly.

🚩 Lethargy - gut pauses in chewing, slowing of rumination.

🚩 Isolation - Isolated away from the mob as others still graze.

🚩 Rapid Shallow Breathing - Struggling to catch breath open mouth tongue out.
