When you eat something you shouldn’t…….
Dogs will often eat things they shouldn’t. Some are even repeat offenders.
Here is Oreo, who is regretting chewing and swallowing part of the cleaning cloth. Thanks to his mum, being ever vigilant, who noticed the missing piece of cloth straight away and sought veterinary attention. (She’s done this before 🤣)
There was enough fabric missing that we were concerned it may cause a blockage in the small intestine. So Oreo had some medicine to make him vomit , up came the missing piece of fabric (and dinner!), and Mum can rest easy now! Well, easier!!

🦷 Before and After 🦷
Check out these pearly whites after their dental clean with Dr Belinda!
Dental disease is a big problem in our pets. Research shows that by age two, 70% of cats and 80% of dogs have dental disease. This number goes up to 90% in toy breeds or “oodles”.
Best tips for managing dental disease…..
1. Intervene EARLY! When the disease is REVERSIBLE.
2. An ideal oral health care plan consists of professional veterinary cleaning (30%) and home cleaning (70%)
3. Home care can either be active (you do the brushing) or passive (they do the brushing with dental chews etc). But you need to do something EVERY day to be effective.

Teddy took the drugs and the drugs are working 🤩

Sedation before your pet’s anaesthetic is an important part of a smooth anaesthetic and recovery.

Each sedation protocol is tailored to the individual patient to take into account many different factors.
Such as -
- age - paediatric patient versus a geriatric patient
- Breed - greyhounds with possible blood clotting disorders or brachycephalic dogs with underlying reflux
- Patient anxiety
- Risk of infection
- Anticipated pain of the procedure
- Any underlying disease or changes on previous blood testing
- And in the case of lump removals, what type of mass is being removed

Most patients will receive sedation once they arrive at the clinic, some may then have additional medications started through an IV as a continuous rate infusion, and others may start the sedation process at home with oral meds the night before surgery.

This extra step in planning helps ensure a smooth procedure for your pet, getting them back on the road to recovery faster.

If you have any questions regarding your pet and their upcoming procedure please reach out ☎️

⭐️ Meet Our Team ⭐️

Say hello to Tori, our amazing Nurse Manager! Originally from North America, Tori graduated from the University of Florida as a qualified veterinary technician.

With a strong focus on surgical excellence and a deep passion for top-tier anaesthetic care, Tori brings incredible dedication to every patient she cares for. She’s also known as our resident cat whisperer 🐱✨

When she’s not in the clinic, you’ll find Tori soaring over high jumps with her horse, bringing her loyal pup Penny along to horse shows, or curled up at home cuddling her adorable cats 🐈‍⬛🐈

We’re lucky to have her on the team!

⭐️June is Seniors Month at Samford Village Vets.
As pets get older, health changes can present, often quietly — things like stiff joints, kidney issues, or early signs of cognitive decline. The colder weather and shorter days can make these things more noticeable.

We’re offering discounted senior diagnostics this month, including blood and urine testing, and intestinal worm antigen screening. It’s a good time to check in and make sure your older pets are staying healthy and comfortable as they age.

June is Seniors Month at Samford Village Vets!

We’re offering discounted comprehensive blood tests and urinalysis (including antigen testing for intestinal worms) for senior cats and dogs. A tailored consult and diagnostics can help catch issues early and keep your senior pets feeling their best.
Feel free to collect a urine and faecal sample to bring to your visit (from your pet!). Urine tests are best served warm so the fresher the better!
You can pick up the sample jars at the hospital anytime before your appointment.
