🚨 ALERT – SUSPECTED WILD DOG ACTIVITY 🚨

We have seen an increase in suspected wild dog attacks across our region, with sadly four beautiful family dogs losing their lives in the past 10 days.

Around February to April is typically breeding season, and from August to October the pups from these litters are weaned and disperse into new areas, creating new and increased activity.

We’re urging pet owners to please take extra precautions, particularly at night:

🐾 Keep dogs on a lead for nighttime toilet breaks
🐾 Keep small, young, elderly or vulnerable pets indoors overnight
🐾 Ensure yards, fences and gates are secure
🐾 Avoid leaving pet food or scraps outside overnight
🐾 Report wild dog sightings or activity to your local council

Please stay vigilant and help keep our local pets safe. ❤️🐾

🐾WORK EXPERIENCE AT PROSSIE VETS! 🐾

Earlier this term, we had the pleasure of welcoming Ocea and Isabella from St Catherine’s Catholic College into the clinic for work experience!

During their time with us, the girls were able to experience many different aspects of life in a veterinary surgery — from helping around the clinic and observing consults, to seeing patient care, treatments and procedures firsthand. 🩺🐶🐱

Both Ocea and Isabella did a fantastic job and were keen to learn, get involved and make the most of their time with us. It was lovely having them as part of the team!

We’re always happy to be able to support local students and give them a glimpse into the veterinary industry. Who knows — we might just be looking at some future veterinary professionals! 💜

🚨 OH NO! DR FAYE IS OUT OF ACTION! 🚨

This is snow joke!!!

What was meant to be a trip across the ditch for a vet conference, with a little skiing squeezed in, has unfortunately ended with Dr Faye breaking her leg! 🎿🦴😬

Things escalated fairly quickly from there, with Faye needing to be choppered off the mountain 🚁 — but every cloud has a silver lining… apparently Faye’s arrived by helicopter and wore a uniform.😉😂

From powder to plaster, Faye has taken ‘break a leg’ far too literally.
Thankfully, Faye is okay and in good spirits, but she’ll be off her feet and out of the clinic for a little while.

Our PVS team will be holding down the fort while Dr Faye tackles what may be her toughest challenge yet… actually resting. 😅

Please bear with us over the coming weeks as we juggle appointments, emergencies and vet availability while our fearless leader is temporarily one leg down! We do have a wonderful Locum Vet attending which we will introduce shortly!

Faye will be back to work before she can walk no doubt!

🚨 EMERGENCY VET NOTICE 🚨

Unfortunately, due to a shortage of available veterinarians, Proserpine Vet Surgery will be unable to provide an emergency vet tonight (Saturday) and Sunday night.

We understand how important access to emergency veterinary care is to our community, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience or worry this may cause.

During these periods, any veterinary emergencies will need to be referred to Valley Vets in Mackay for assistance.

Please call our after hours line on 07 4945 1878 and our triage nurse will be able to assist you.

Today we're celebrating our wonderful feline friends—the curious explorers, expert sunbathers, midnight zoomie champions, and professional lap warmers who make our lives so much brighter.

Cats are masters at hiding when they're unwell, so regular health checks are one of the best ways to keep them happy and healthy. Whether they're playful kittens or wise senior cats, routine veterinary care, vaccinations, parasite prevention, dental checks and maintaining a healthy weight all play an important role in their wellbeing.

🦜 Patient of the Week: Meet Bam Bam! 💚

This handsome 4-year-old Eclectus parrot, Bam Bam, was rushed into our clinic after eating something he definitely shouldn't have! Thankfully, our team acted quickly to give him the best possible care.

One of the first procedures performed was a crop flush. A crop flush is a procedure where warm sterile fluid is gently introduced into the bird's crop (a pouch in the oesophagus where food is temporarily stored) and then carefully removed. This helps flush out unwanted material before it can move further into the digestive system and cause more serious problems.

After his procedure, Bam Bam was monitored closely by our team to ensure he was recovering well. We were all delighted to see his bright personality shine through as he became more comfortable throughout the day.

It didn't take long for Bam Bam to win everyone's hearts! 💚 Between his sweet cuddles, gentle nature, and plenty of feathered kisses, our nurses found it impossible not to spoil him with attention.

We're so happy to report that Bam Bam made a great recovery, and we wish him all the best back at home with his loving family.
