Trigg changed everything for me.

He wasn’t just another dog… he was the reason I found my way back into the dog world. The reason I started looking deeper, learning more, and seeing dogs for who they truly are.

Through him, I’ve been reminded that every dog is an individual. That behaviour is communication. That confidence isn’t built overnight — it’s created through trust, patience, and the right challenges.

Trigg has pushed me to grow, to question what I thought I knew, and to become better, not just for him, but for every dog I work with.

Sometimes one dog is all it takes to change your direction completely.
For me, that dog was Trigg 🐾

Building trust with your dog isn’t just done in the easy moments… it’s built in the hard ones 🐾

The “scary” things: new places, loud noises, unfamiliar objects etc, these are actually opportunities.

Opportunities to show your dog that they’re safe.
That they don’t have to face things alone.
That you’ve got them 💛

It might not look scary to us… but that’s not the experience your dog is having.

So instead of rushing them past it or forcing them through, try this:

🌿 Give them space
⏳ Give them time
👀 Let them observe
🐕 Let them choose to approach

No pressure. No forcing. Just support.

When your dog learns that you’ll listen to them, advocate for them, and not push them beyond what they can handle… that’s where real trust is built.

And with that trust comes confidence, not just in the world around them, but in you to guide them through it.

Not all dogs walk into new environments with their tail wagging and that’s okay!

Confidence isn’t something every dog naturally has, it’s something we can build.

Some dogs need a little more time to take things in, process what’s around them, and feel safe. Rushing that process can actually set them back but supporting them properly? That’s where the magic happens 🖤

How do we build confidence?

- Go at their pace: Let your dog observe, sniff, and take in the environment without pressure. Confidence grows when they feel safe, not rushed.

- Create positive associations: Pair new places, sounds, and experiences with something they love like treats, play, or calm praise.

- Keep it achievable: Set your dog up to win. Start small, build gradually, and celebrate the little moments.

- Let them choose: Giving your dog choice (like approaching something in their own time) builds trust and resilience.

- Consistency is key: Confidence doesn’t happen overnight, it’s built through repeated positive experiences.

- Be their safe place: Your presence, energy, and support matter more than anything. When they trust you, they’ll feel braver exploring the world.

A confident dog isn’t necessarily the one that charges into everything… It’s the one that feels safe enough to try.

Not all dogs need the same walk 🐶

A kelpie isn’t a cavoodle.
A lab isn’t a dachshund.
A spaniel definitely isn’t “just a chill dog” 😂

Different breeds were designed for different jobs and those instincts don’t just disappear.

🐾 Kelpies: thrive on structure, purpose, and mental engagement
🐾 Labradors: love movement, water, and carrying things
🐾 Spaniels: led by their nose, always hunting for scent
🐾 Cavoodles: often social, sensitive, and people-focused
🐾 Dachshunds: independent, curious, and surprisingly driven

When we try to give every dog the same walk, we miss what actually fulfils them.

The key isn’t doing more…
It’s doing what’s right for that dog.

Dogs don’t sweat like we do. They rely on panting, shade, airflow and smart management from us to help keep their bodies balanced.

But temperature regulation isn’t only about hot days 👇

Cold, wet, or windy conditions can also impact a dog’s comfort and stress levels — especially puppies, seniors, short-coated breeds or lean dogs.

As handlers, it’s our job to:
• Choose appropriate walk times
• Provide access to fresh water
• Use shade and rest breaks
• Adjust duration and intensity
• Know when to call it early

Not all dog play is the same, and that’s okay 🐶✨

Appropriate play between dogs should look balanced.

You’ll often see:
• Role switching (who’s chasing changes)
• Play bows inviting the other dog back in
• Pauses and breaks to reset
• Loose, wiggly bodies

Good play is a conversation. One dog says “let’s go!” and the other dog says “yes!” again and again.

But when play becomes too intense, one-sided, or a dog can’t escape the interaction, it stops being fun and starts becoming stressful.

That’s where thoughtful supervision matters.

Helping dogs take breaks, reading their body language, and making sure both dogs are choosing to stay in the game helps keep play safe, fair and enjoyable for everyone 🤍

Because the best play sessions leave both dogs happy, relaxed… and ready for the next adventure.
