Poor Hazel. She recently moved from kennels to a new foster carer with the hopes it would become her forever home but, sadly, she is once again looking for her dream family. Hazel was the perfect house guest, even tolerating the resident dog, but ultimately he proved that he wasn’t suitable or mature enough to have another dog join their household yet. This is from Hazel’s foster carer:
𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝘇𝗲𝗹 – 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱!
✅ Hazel is a gorgeous girl with the rich colouring of a chocolate Labrador and a heart just as sweet. This lovable lady is as friendly as they come – she adores kids, gets along beautifully with other dogs, and is even okay with cats!
✅ Hazel is very food motivated (treats are her love language!) and eager to please, which makes her a dream to train. She’s been a total star in her foster home, showing off her gentle nature and endless patience – even when her goofy foster brother tests her limits!
✅ She would thrive in a home where someone is around during the day (working from home would be ideal), or with another friendly dog companion to keep her company. Hazel loves being part of the action and doesn't like being alone too much – she’s a true people pup at heart.
✅ If you're looking for a sweet, affectionate, and easy-going companion who’ll be your shadow and your snuggle buddy, Hazel might just be your perfect match.

Theo is a friendly and funny boy with lots of love to give! He is just 14 weeks old, so he's still learning the ways of the world, but he's always affectionate and playful. He loves making new friends, both human and canine, and playing with his favourite toys. He's a baby so he will need a loving family who is committed to training him and preparing him for the next stages of his life. Another dog to teach him the ropes would also be awesome. Hazel is a 22kg beauty who needs your help! This sweet girl is urgently seeking a foster or adoptive home where she can feel safe, supported, and loved. Hazel is a truly kind soul who’d be grateful for a soft place to land – either with a temporary foster carer, or an adoptive family ready to show her lasting love. In return, she’ll thank you with endless snuggles and those adoring eyes!

Ideally, she would love a playful canine companion and an active family. A party animal with a heart of gold, Hazel plays hard and snuggles harder. Her happy place is draped across your lap or pressed against your leg on the couch! Like any clever and fun-loving pup, she's prone to some cheeky behaviour when she doesn't have an outlet to get her sillies out, so outside time and fun activities are the way to her heart!

🐶🐾𝗣𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗜𝗘𝗦!!🐾🐶
These 7 beautifully natured pups will be ready for new homes very soon. They are mixed breeds, but Mum & Dad are both “kelpie crossed with something”, so we think they will be medium sized. There are 4 males and 3 females. We are DESPERATE for foster carers! Our rescue relies on our team of carers and we hate turning away dogs in need which is the position we are now in.
These are a few that are urgent. We are also ok with FVA (Foster with a View to Adopt).
𝗛𝗮𝘇𝗲𝗹 – 1yo F koolie x, would like a male dog friend, older kids.
𝗥𝗶𝘇 – 6yo F shar pei x, friendly girl looking for a pet free home.
𝗔𝘃𝗮 – 4yo F staffy, happy & sweet but would prefer a dog free home.
𝗗𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗲 – 2yo kelpie x, has recently raised pups and is over it so is now looking for some time for herself.
𝗢𝗿𝗲𝗼 & 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲 – 2 x shih tzus, 7yo mum and her 4yo son, must stay together at this stage, no young kids.
𝟳 𝗽𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗲𝘀 - 4 x M, 3 x F kelpie x. As our pups are now weaned and not reliant on Mum, we’d like to split them into 3 homes before they move to their forever homes.

𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗨𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗟𝗬 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗠𝘂𝗺-𝘁𝗼-𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗲.
🐶 𝗗𝗢𝗧𝗧𝗜𝗘 is pregnant so time is critical. She desperately needs a safe space to welcome her puppies into the world. A kennel is no place for babies. We do not know her expected date yet, but she will have a full vet check-up when she comes into our care, and we can provide all food and puppy supplies. Dottie is a timid dog; she deserves all the care and comfort during this crucial time. Also, Dottie has never been walked on a lead so will need a patient carer, preferably with puppy experience. Older children only as nursing dogs can be protective of their babies which might be a potential risk to younger kids.
🐶 𝗟𝗨𝗞𝗔 is super sweet and, at under 8 months old, is just a fun-loving boy. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He is social with other dogs and loves to play, so he would love a doggy sibling, but expect some puppy exuberance. This guy is young and has plenty of energy so would love a family that will take him on adventures, continue his training and give him lots of things to do. Luka is a goofy, affectionate and friendly pooch who deserves a chance. Adoption is available but we are asking for a foster home initially so we can get him sterilised, etc.

📢 𝗨𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗧 - 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗛𝗢𝗠𝗘 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗘𝗗!
🐶 𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗣𝗧 𝗢𝗥 𝗙𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥 🐶
Ava has been boarding with Canine Impact since early November. We are very appreciative, but we cannot afford to keep paying for this. Not finding a foster home sucks, but for Ava it has been a big win as she has received over 3 months of daily professional training.
Ash the trainer had this to say, “Ava doesn’t really have anything left for us to help her with, she’s just kind of hanging out.” “Ava, I can’t fault, the only thing she struggles with is a bit of over arousal in the kennels some days, otherwise she is doing amazing. She can pass dogs out in public, good at cafes, etc. No reactions when cuddling and other dogs come up. We have a small Boston Terrier in, and she is neutral to her as well!”
We need to move Ava as soon as possible to free up the training spot for other dogs that need help. She just needs to be given a chance.

🎅 As the end of 2024 draws near, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and joyous Christmas. 🙏 We would also like to thank every one of our supporters who have helped us throughout the year. This may have been with donations of products, cash, time or services; or maybe you nominated us to receive your recycling proceeds at Containers for Change or supported our sausage sizzles; or perhaps it was just spreading the word about our dogs looking for new homes. We appreciate it all! ❤ It is only with help from people like you that we can continue to do what we do for the dogs.

Dogs Behind Bars Rescue is committed to fostering and re-homing unwanted dogs into safe, loving homes. We have many years’ experience in dog rescue and are dedicated to continuing to make a difference. We are a foster-based rescue in Perth, Western Australia. Our passionate team of volunteers give their time to help dogs live better lives and find them forever homes. Dogs Behind Bars is a non-profit rescue organisation, and all our funding comes from donations and fundraisers. Several of the dogs in our care require urgent vet care, and any donations made to our rescue would be put towards helping these dogs recover so they can find their forever family!
