With H5N1 (Bird Flu) detected in local wild seabirds, we’ve had a few clients asking what this means for their pets.

At this time, the risk remains low, but it's important that we make a few sensible changes to daily routines:

🦜 Pet birds & poultry: Keep feed and water covered, and secure aviaries/coops to prevent any contact with wild birds.

🐕 Dogs: Keep them on a lead around waterbirds and stop them from investigating dead birds.

🐈 Cats: Keep them indoors where practical, or take steps to prevent them from hunting wild birds.

Found a sick or dead wild bird? Do not handle it. Keep children and pets away, and call the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

Meet Dr Tyra Simons! 🐾

Dr Tyra joined our team in January after graduating from Murdoch University in 2025. She loves the daily variety of general practice, with a special passion for keeping our senior pets comfortable and thriving in their golden years.

Outside the clinic, you will find her at the beach, cycling, or attempting to convince herself she likes running. She is also a massive Freo fan! 💜⚓

Say hello to Dr Tyra next time you are in!

It’s Check the Chip Day! 🐾📍

With spring just around the corner, pets are naturally going to spend a bit more time exploring outdoors (and testing out fence limits!). Before the warmer weather escape season arrives, today is a quick reminder to double-check that your pet’s microchip details are up to date.

If you’ve moved house, changed your phone number, or aren't sure which registry your pet is listed on, pop online or ask our reception team to scan their chip next time you're in.
