Today we celebrated our senior nurse Mel on her last day in clinic before she sets off for not one, not two, but three exciting occasions! Her wedding, her honeymoon, and her birthday (which she’ll get to celebrate while away!) 💍✈️🎂✨ We couldn’t let the day pass without cake and presents before she heads into this special new chapter. 👰

We also enjoyed another Fun Scrub Friday today. A new tradition here at NVC that has quickly become a favourite monthly highlight for us all! Our scrubs are getting more colourful each month! 💜💙💚💛🧡💓❤️

We’re sending you all our love and best wishes for your big day, Mel! 💍 May your honeymoon be unforgettable, your birthday extra special, and your time away filled with joy. We can’t wait to welcome you back as a Mrs! 💕

🦷 Could your pet have dental disease? 😬🐶🐱

Dental disease is one of the most common health issues in pets, and because our furry friends can’t tell us when something hurts, it often goes unnoticed. 😢

Here are some signs your pet may be suffering from dental disease:

🪥 Bad breath (that “doggy breath” isn’t normal!)
🪥 Yellow or brown buildup on the teeth
🪥 Red, inflamed gums
🪥 Drooling more than usual
🪥 Difficulty eating or chewing on one side
🪥 Pawing at the mouth or face
🪥 Bleeding gums
🪥 A change in behaviour, less playful or more withdrawn
🪥 Wobbly or missing teeth

Even if your pet seems fine on the outside, they may be dealing with constant pain and infection beneath the surface. That’s why regular dental checks and routine dental procedures (with X-rays!) are so important.

📞 Not sure where your pet’s dental health is at? Book your free nurse dental check with our team this month!

“Good evening, Northfield Veterinary Clinic, Ted on the phones. How can I help?!”

Dr. Brittany’s new baby has already taken on his first role in the clinic: melting hearts! 🤎
We are all smitten and we can’t wait to watch him grow into the most handsome receptionist! (Right behind Jason, of course 😉)

Say hello to NVC’s very first Kennel Hand, Shayla! 💞

Shayla recently completed a two-week placement with us, and from day one she fit right in. Her brilliant work ethic, lovely personality and infectious enthusiasm quickly stood out, and she instantly felt like part of the team.. so we couldn’t let her go! We feel very fortunate to now have Shayla officially join NVC, and we look forward to supporting her throughout her studies.

“I am currently studying my Bachelor of Veterinary Technology and I only have a year and a half left to go! My house has always been filled with family pets of all different shapes and sizes since I was little, but I currently live with my two dogs, Bowie and Dodge along with my rabbit, Peanut.

For the past two years I have been working at a boarding kennel and cattery which has allowed me to grow my knowledge on animal husbandry and strengthen my skills. When I’m not working or studying, you’ll most likely find me curled up on the couch, drinking a cup of tea while either reading a book, drawing some sketches or watching any Disney movie.

I recently completed my placement at Northfield and I instantly fell in love with the culture, passion and purpose that the NVC team share. I am looking forward to furthering my understanding and skills within the veterinary industry surrounded by the most supportive team!”

Be sure to say hi to Shayla next time you are visiting us! 💕

What is Periodontal Disease? 🦷
It all starts with plaque, a sticky, invisible layer of bacteria which forms on your pet’s teeth and under the gumline. If not removed, this plaque hardens into tartar, leading to inflammation of the gums known as gingivitis, the earliest stage of dental disease.

The good news is gingivitis is both preventable and reversible when caught early 👏 If left untreated, the inflammation continues to worsen, causing damage to the teeth, gums, and the bone structure that supports them. This is periodontal disease, and by this stage, your pet may unfortunately need teeth extracted. Dental disease doesn’t just affect the mouth. It can impact your pet’s overall health, including vital organs like the heart, liver, and kidneys.

Prevention is everything!
