Fulham Gardens Animal Hospital - Pets and their People

Fulham Gardens Animal Hospital - Pets and their People …because everyone deserves a vet they can trust. Pets and their People is a team founded by Alan Dalgarno, Veronica Wah Day and Peter Hangartner.

Since 1998 we have been caring for your pets at the Unley, Fulham Gardens and Black Forest Veterinary Surgeries. In 2013 Pets and their People was created and every member of our teams recognizes that you and your pet share a unique bond. As pet owners the bond we share with our pets greatly enhance our lives, bringing joy and companionship, creating strong social and community networks, enhancing

physical and mental health and well being. Facilities and equipment are merely part of the foundation of what we do…Our vets and nurses thrive on continuing education, and as a team we continually analyse what and why we do things. We have a diverse team of professionals that share a common set of values especially regarding the important role pets play in our lives. We strive to be great communicators and offer the highest standard of veterinary care. We then tailoring that care to suit you and your pets individual needs. We see our role as providing opportunities to maintain and optimise your relationship with your pet. Together with our great team, our mission is to continue to care for you and your pets to enhance your lives together. We have three Adelaide vet surgery locations: Fulham Gardens Vet Surgery in Adelaide's western suburbs, Unley Vet and Black Forest Vet Surgeries in Adelaide's inner eastern and southern suburbs.

June 4th is Hug Your Cat Day, so please take a moment today, to show your feline friends some extra special love & attention, for all the unconditional love & emotional support they provide you everyday. The best way to celebrate Hug Your Cat Day is to give your cat exactly what they like best, which might not actually be a physical hug. Cats value consent and personal space, so tailored affection is the key to a happy pet, and special tasty treat will be just as appreciated!!

Well done to Pippa, she was an amazing little student.
Pippa was obsessed with our treats nearly as much as we were obsessed with her & she also loved peanut butter & cuddles in class 🩷

Fun Fact Friday!
Did you know... Cats are the only known mammals that completely lack the genetic ability to taste sweetness?? Cats have a genetic mutation that disables their sweet taste receptors, meaning they can’t taste sugar. Instead their taste buds are finely tuned to detect umami & adenosine triphosphate’s, compounds found in living cells that signal the presence of fresh meat. Cats are also highly sensitive to bitter tastes, which is an evolutionary defense mechanism to help them avoid spoiled food or toxins.

May 14th is Chihuahua appreciation day!!!
Fun Fact - Chihuahua’s are recognized as the World’s smallest dog breed, and have the largest brain-to-body size of all dog breeds. They have large, apple shaped heads and like human infants, many Chihuahuas are born with a molera, which is a soft spot on the top of their heads that often closes with age. So if there's a little wa-wa in your family, don't forget to give them some extra love today, and please share their photos below!! **photo is Loki, a gorgeous chihuahua mix with a BIG personality**

🦷 Dental Disease in Pets 🐾

Bad breath isn’t just “dog breath” — it can actually be a sign of painful dental problems hiding below the gum line.

Signs your pet may have dental disease:
🦷 Bad breath
🦷 Yellow or brown tartar build-up
🦷 Red or bleeding gums
🦷 Difficulty eating or chewing
🦷 Drooling
🦷 Pawing at the mouth
🦷 Reduced appetite or behaviour changes

Dental disease can be painful and, if left untreated, may affect important organs like the heart, liver and kidneys.

The best prevention?
✔️ Regular dental checks
✔️ Tooth brushing at home
✔️ Dental diets or chews
✔️ Professional dental cleans when needed

A healthy mouth means a happier, healthier pet 🐶🐱

If you’re concerned about your pet’s teeth, book them in for a dental check with our team today! 🩵
