🐐 Hanging with the cool kids! 🐐

I got to spend some time with the crew at bonvillecreekfarm for some routine health screening and testing.

They were VERY keen to be involved… although that may have had something to do with us setting up in their lunch room. 😂 Apparently personal space goes out the window when snacks are involved!

And can we take a moment to appreciate the multi-level rack ’em and stack ’em goat barn system? 🤣🐐🐐🐐

Routine health checks and screening are a great way to keep on top of things before there’s a problem.

🌧️ Rain, rain, go away! 🌧️

Now, I don’t actually dislike the rain… but I could definitely live without the MUD. 😅

And with all this wet weather comes wet feet — which means we start seeing more seedy toe, thrush, abscesses and all kinds of delightful smelly cracks. 🐴🦶🤢

Lucky I’ve been busy whipping up a big batch of my bluestone + Vaseline concoction — perfect for packing into those questionable little cracks and crevices that appear when everything refuses to dry out!

Meanwhile, Shar is demonstrating the advanced technique of the double-foot Epsom salt soak. 😂
Why soak one foot when you can soak two at once? Efficiency!

Keep an eye (and a nose 👃) on those feet while it stays wet. If something starts looking a little funky — or your horse suddenly decides walking is optional — give me a call!

And please tell me I’m not the only one who is officially over the mud?! 🙋‍♀️🌧️

Apparently once it’s in the mouth, possession is nine-tenths of the law. 🤷‍♀️🐎

🎉 YAY BUZZ! CANCER FREE! 🎉

This handsome donkey recently had surgery to remove a sarcoid from his flank — and we’ve just had the best news back from the lab… clean margins! 🙌

Sarcoids are one of the most common skin cancers we see in both horses and donkeys. They can be nasty little things, and depending on their size and location we may treat them with surgery, chemotherapy, or a combination of both.

Buzz wasn’t a good candidate for chemo, so we went for surgical removal with nice wide margins — and pathology confirmed we got it all. 🥳

Winter is actually a great time to deal with lumps and bumps like these: fewer flies, cooler weather and generally much nicer conditions for wound healing.

So if your horse or donkey has a suspicious lump you’ve been keeping an eye on, now is a pretty good time to get it checked.

And for Buzz? No more unwanted lumps on his lovely donkey rump! 🍑🫏

I had the privilege of catching up with little Maddie this week — Kentaro Vet’s smallest equine patient! 🐴🤏

She’s so tiny that to do her dental, I have to set myself up sitting on the ground. Nothing like adding a core workout to the dental schedule! 😂💪

For a little perspective, at the other end of the scale we have Reggie — our largest equine patient. Safe to say the job comes with some serious height adjustments!

From tiny hooves to VERY big hooves, we believe horses of all shapes and sizes deserve to feel their best. 💚

And apparently my job description includes everything from floor sitting to reaching for the sky! 😂

Good weekend away for a workshop! ☀️📚

A huge thank you to everyone for your understanding while I was away. It was a real deep dive into why we do what we do—not just the “how”—and my brain is definitely coming home a little fuller!

I also managed to sneak in a few sunrise chases, a little beach time, and soak up some sunshine before heading back to Coffs.

Now it’s time to put all that learning into practice. Looking forward to seeing you all this week! 🐴🐮

Turns out CPD is even better with a side of sunrise, salty air… and just enough vitamin sea to convince myself I was “recovering” from all that learning. 😉🌅

Nothing says “weekend away” quite like… a business workshop. 😂 But every course means more ideas, better systems, and an even better Kentaro Vet when I get back.

Good luck to everyone racing on Cup Day! 🏇🍀 I hope you back a winner (or at least have more luck than the office coffee machine).

And because every announcement deserves a face to match… here’s Valentino sporting his post-castration munchies expression. Safe to say he’s recovered enough to be concentrating on the important things in life… snacks. 🌱😋

🎉 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HORSES! 🐴🎂

Today is one of the biggest birthday parties of the year… because every Thoroughbred officially turns a year older on 1st August! 🥳

Why? It’s much easier for racing and breeding records if everyone celebrates on the same day, rather than trying to keep track of thousands of individual birthdays.

And here’s a fun fact: if you don’t know your horse’s actual birthday, 1st August is often used as their “default” birthday too. (Standardbreds have their big birthday party a month later on 1st September!)

So whether your horse is officially 3 or feeling more like 23… give them an extra scratch, an extra carrot, or maybe let them believe they’re still young at heart. 😉
