Say cheese! 🧀📸

Nurse Elloise and Agnis were more than happy to pose for the camera, and we think they nailed it! 🐾🖤

Did you know black Labradors are known for their friendly temperament, intelligence, and gentle nature? Originally bred as working dogs, Labs are not only wonderful family companions but also excel as assistance, therapy, and detection dogs thanks to their eagerness to learn and loyal personalities.

They’re also energetic dogs who thrive on regular exercise, mental stimulation, and plenty of human interaction to keep them happy and healthy. 💛

Safe to say Agnis is giving us a perfect example of the classic happy Lab smile (or yawn…) today! ✨🐶

Yasmin when it’s ball time 🎾
Born to retrieve, built for fetch. Like every true Labrador, Yasmin takes her job very seriously: chase, collect, return, repeat. 🐾
(Fun fact: Labradors were selectively bred for retrieving, which is why they LOVE games like fetch 💛)

🩸✨ New in house blood testing has officially arrived at Mt Martha Vet!

As you can see, Dr. Nikae did a fantastic job demonstrating how our new machinery works to the nursing team!

Blood testing is an incredibly valuable tool in veterinary medicine and can help us to:
- Detect illness early , sometimes before pets even show symptoms
- Monitor ongoing health conditions and medications
- Assess organ function such as liver, kidneys, and pancreas
- Ensure pets are healthy and safe before surgery or anaesthesia
- Help us better understand what’s going on when your pet isn’t feeling their best

We are super excited here at MM Vet!

Oh Mickey, you’re so fine! 🎶🐾

We recently had the pleasure of desexing this gorgeous little Westie, Mickey 💙
Nurse Elloise and Mickey go wayyy back, she’s known him since he was just a tiny pup, so getting to be his surgical nurse on the day made it extra special.

As you can see in the first pic, Mickey was already up enjoying his post-op walk like an absolute champ ✨

So, why are post-op walks important after surgery?

Getting our patients up for a gentle walk once they’re awake and comfortable helps encourage circulation, supports recovery, and allows us to monitor how they’re feeling after their procedure. It’s also a great sign that they’re bright, alert, and on the road to feeling like themselves again 🐶💕

Of course, recovery still means plenty of rest, cuddles, and taking it easy at home while healing takes place.

Mickey did so well throughout his procedure and recovery, and we’re so proud of this brave little guy 🐾

🐶✨ First puppy visit for little Churro! ✨🐶

Sweet little Churro came in to see us for their 10 week puppy vaccination and absolutely stole everyone’s hearts while they were here. 🥹💛 Those tiny paws, puppy cuddles, and curious little faces are always the highlight of our day!

At your puppy’s first visits, our vets do much more than just vaccinations. We take the time to chat through all the important questions new puppy owners may have and provide helpful guidance to set your new best friend up for a happy, healthy life. From nutrition and toilet training to socialisation, behaviour, parasite prevention, and what to expect as they grow, we’re here to help every step of the way. 🐾

We also offer complimentary puppy packs for all new puppy owners! 🎁 These packs are filled with useful information and tips on things like:
✨ Crate training
✨ Settling into a new home
✨ Puppy behaviour and routines
✨ Toilet training advice
✨ Plus sometimes even a few tasty treats for our adorable patients 😋

Bringing home a new puppy is such an exciting time, and having the right support can make all the difference. If you’ve recently welcomed a new furry family member, come on down and let us help get them started on the right paw! 💚

🦜✨ Archie the parrot went on quite the adventure before finally ending up here at our clinic! Luckily, handsome Mr. Archie was microchipped, which meant we were able to quickly contact his owners and reunite them with their feathered escape artist. Safe to say they were absolutely over the moon to see him again! 💚

And honestly… it didn’t take long for Archie to charm the entire clinic team. Between the cheeky personality, curious chatter, and those adorable little head tilts, we all fell completely head over heels for him. 🥹

Archie’s story is such an important reminder of why microchipping matters for *all* pets, even our winged friends! Accidents happen, doors get left open, and adventurous pets can travel much farther than we’d ever expect. A microchip gives lost pets the best possible chance of making it safely back home where they belong. 🏡

If your pet isn’t microchipped yet, or your contact details need updating, now is the perfect time to get it sorted. A tiny chip can make a life changing difference. ✨

Doctor and artist, what can’t she do? 🎨✨

Dr. Nikae has been passionate about art since she was young, and her creativity continues to shine both inside and outside the clinic. We’re so excited to showcase her stunning new artwork, now proudly displayed for all of our clients to enjoy! 🖼️🤍

Her piece brings so much warmth and personality into the space, and we love being able to celebrate the incredible talents within our team. Next time you’re visiting, make sure you stop and have a look, we promise it won’t be too hard to find… it’s hanging proudly right behind reception. 👀✨

From caring for patients to creating beautiful art, Dr. Nikae truly does it all. Be sure to let us know what you think of her latest masterpiece when you see it! 🎨🙌

🦷🐾 Dental in Action with Dr. Josh and Nurse Sarah!

Just like us, our pets need regular dental care to stay happy and healthy! From routine check ups and professional cleans to more advanced treatments like extractions, dental health plays a *huge* role in your pet’s overall wellbeing.

But why is it so important? 🤔
Poor dental hygiene doesn’t just lead to bad breath, it can cause painful infections, tooth loss, and bacteria that may spread to vital organs like the heart, liver, and kidneys. That’s a big deal!

Signs your pet might need a dental check:
• Bad breath (more than the usual “doggy breath”)
• Difficulty eating or chewing
• Red or bleeding gums
• Yellow or brown buildup on teeth
• Pawing at the mouth or face

The good news? Preventative care goes a long way! Regular brushing, dental treats, and routine vet visits can make all the difference.

A healthy mouth = a happier, longer life for your furry friend 🐶🐱💙

Double trouble!! 🐾🐾

These two cuties actually met in our waiting room, how cool is that?!

Same breed, same vibe… but have you ever wondered why dogs of the same breed share similar characteristics? 👇

It all comes down to **selective breeding**. Over many generations, breeds were developed for specific jobs like herding, guarding, hunting, or companionship. Breeders selected dogs with certain traits (like temperament, size, coat type, and energy levels) and bred them together to create consistency in those qualities.

That’s why you’ll often see:
• Similar personalities (e.g. energetic, calm, protective)
• Predictable sizes and coat types
• Shared instincts (like herding, retrieving, or digging!)

Of course, every dog is still an individual with their own quirks, which is what makes moments like this even more special 💙

Have you ever met your dog’s “twin”? 🐶👯‍♂️

Nurse Kristie shoutout! 🐾💙

Here we have Tuck and Cassie, how cute are they?! 😍 These two lucky pups have landed the ultimate forever home, thanks to Kristie’s big heart and undeniable soft spot for Jack Russell Terriers.

Not only does she care for her patients, but she’s gone above and beyond to give these rescues the love, comfort, and (let’s be real) very spoilt life they deserve. From second chances to sofa snuggles, Tuck and Cassie are thriving 🐶✨

Fun fact: Jack Russell Terriers might be small, but they are packed with energy and intelligence! Originally bred for fox hunting, they’re fearless, super quick, and love having a job to do, which probably explains their big personalities in tiny bodies.

Safe to say, these two have found their perfect match 💕
