🐾 Did You Know? 🐾

Cats are the true chatterboxes of the animal world! 😸
While dogs can make around 10 different sounds, our feline friends can produce over 100 unique vocalisations — from meows and purrs to chirps, trills, and even little “mumbles” when they’re talking to you (or themselves!).

Each sound has its own meaning — whether they’re asking for dinner, greeting you, or expressing their royal displeasure at a closed door. 🐱👑

No wonder we spend so much time trying to figure out what our cats are saying!
Tell us — what’s your cat’s favourite “phrase”?

🐶👃 Did you know your dog’s nose is one of a kind? 👃🐶

Every dog’s nose print is completely unique — just like a human fingerprint! No two pups share the same pattern of ridges and creases. How amazing is that? 🐾✨

But that’s not the only incredible thing about those cute, sniffly snoots…
A dog’s wet nose actually helps them absorb scent! 🌸🦴

Here’s how it works:
🔹 That thin layer of mucus on their nose helps capture scent particles more easily than a dry surface.
🔹 When dogs lick their noses, it brings those scent particles to a special sensory organ on the roof of their mouth (called the Jacobson’s organ) — allowing them to detect even the faintest of odours, including pheromones.
🔹 And as if that wasn’t enough, their noses also help with temperature regulation, releasing a tiny bit of sweat to keep them cool.

So next time your furry friend’s nose boops yours, remember — you’re looking at a masterpiece of nature’s design! 💚

🦷💚 Bravery Award for Jet! 💚🦷

Today’s star patient is Jet, who came in to Our Vet Mornington for a professional dental clean — and what an absolute champ he was! 🌟

Just like us, our pets can build up plaque and tartar on their teeth, which can lead to bad breath, gum disease, and discomfort. Regular dental care and professional cleans help keep those pearly whites shining and those smiles healthy!

Jet handled his procedure like a true professional — with plenty of cuddles from our team, of course. We’re so proud of you, Jet! 🐾✨

If your pet’s breath could use a little freshening or it’s been a while since their last dental check, chat with our friendly team today. Prevention really is the best medicine!

🐾 Double the floof, double the smiles! 🐾

We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Chloe and Missy into Our Vet Mornington today — and honestly, could they be any cuter? 😍

These two fluffy little charmers brought sunshine (and a whole lot of tail wags!) into the clinic. It’s always such a joy to see our clients’ pets happy, healthy, and full of personality!

Our team loves getting to know all the beautiful pets that visit us — whether it’s for a check-up, a cuddle, or just to say hello. 💚

📍 If your furry family member is due for a visit, pop in and see us at Our Vet Mornington, conveniently located inside PetO.

💚 Happy International Vet Nurse Day! 💚

Today we’re celebrating our amazing nurses — Kelly, Mia and Liv — who are the heart of Our Vet Mornington.

From comforting our patients and assisting in surgery, to keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes, these three bring care, compassion and kindness to every single day.

They marked the day in style with a well-earned lunch and the cutest matching socks — a lovely gift from our friends at Edenhills Pet Cremation 🧦💚

Thank you, Kelly, Mia and Liv, for all that you do — we couldn’t do it without you! 💕

🐾💛 Sweet Little Remi 💛🐾

This beautiful girl came in to see us at Our Vet Mornington today with sore paws from a bit too much licking. While it might look like a simple habit, excessive licking can often be a sign that something deeper is going on — and one of the most common causes is allergies.

Just like people, pets can be allergic to things in their environment — like grass, pollen, dust mites, or certain foods. When their skin becomes itchy or irritated, they lick or chew to soothe the discomfort. Unfortunately, this can make things worse by damaging the skin and allowing bacteria or yeast to enter, leading to painful infections.

Our team gave Remi lots of gentle care (and a few cuddles too 💚) to help soothe her paws and start her on the road to recovery.

If you notice your pet licking, scratching, or biting at their skin or paws, it’s important to get them checked. With the right diagnosis and treatment plan, we can manage the cause — not just the symptoms — and keep your pet comfortable and happy.

Because at Our Vet Mornington, your pets are our family too. 🐶💛

🌍🐾 Happy World Animal Day! 🐾🌍

Today, October 4th, we join people around the globe in celebrating World Animal Day — a day dedicated to raising awareness about animal welfare, protecting endangered species, and recognising the important role animals play in our lives.

At Our Vet Mornington, every day is about caring for and respecting animals — whether it’s the pets who are part of our families, the wildlife we share our environment with, or the countless species that make our world so rich and diverse.

World Animal Day is important because it reminds us that:
✨ Animals deserve compassion, kindness, and protection.
✨ Responsible pet care, including preventative health and regular vet visits, helps our furry family members live their best lives.
✨ Every action we take — big or small — can contribute to the wellbeing of animals everywhere.

Let’s celebrate the unconditional love, joy, and connection animals bring us each day. 💚 Share a photo of your beloved pets in the comments so we can celebrate them with you!

🐾 Clever Calcifer 🐾

Today our handsome boy Calcifer came in to Our Vet Mornington for an abdominal ultrasound. 🐱🩺

Ultrasound isn’t just for humans — it’s one of the most valuable diagnostic tools we have for our pets too! This safe and non-invasive technology uses sound waves to create real-time images of what’s happening inside the body. With ultrasound, our vets can:

🔎 Check the health of organs such as the liver, kidneys, bladder, and spleen
🔎 Detect fluid, inflammation, or changes in tissue
🔎 Help diagnose conditions like urinary issues, gastrointestinal problems, or growths
🔎 Monitor ongoing health conditions safely over time

It’s an incredibly useful way to get answers without needing surgery, and it means we can tailor the very best care for each patient.

Calcifer was such a brave boy for his ultrasound today and soaked up all the love and cuddles from our team. 💜
