🐾💨 Did You Know? What are FRAPs? 💨🐾

Ever watched your dog suddenly zoom around the house or backyard at lightning speed for no apparent reason? 🐶💨

Chances are you've witnessed a FRAP — otherwise known as Frenetic Random Activity Periods (or, as most of us call them... the zoomies! 😄).

FRAPs are sudden bursts of energy where dogs (and even cats!) race around, spin in circles, leap over furniture, and generally look like they've completely lost the plot!

But don't worry — in most cases, it's perfectly normal.

🐾 Why do pets get the zoomies?
✔️ Releasing pent-up energy
✔️ Excitement after a bath
✔️ Happiness after a walk or playtime
✔️ Relief after being confined
✔️ Simply because they're feeling playful!

Puppies and younger dogs tend to experience FRAPs more often, but pets of any age can enjoy an occasional burst of joyful energy.

💛 When should you be concerned?
While zoomies are usually harmless, if your pet suddenly develops frantic behaviour that seems unusual, appears disorientated, is crying out in pain, or is injuring themselves during these episodes, it's worth having them checked by your veterinarian.

Tail Amputation - Warning Graphic Images.

We know procedures like this can be stressful for owners, so we’re always here to support both our patients and their families every step of the way

🐾Recently, one of our gorgeous patients underwent a tail amputation procedure here at Our Vet Mornington after sustaining an injury that unfortunately caused damage to end of the tail.

To ensure the best comfort and healing outcome, it was necessary to remove a small portion of the damaged area. Our wonderful Dr Jesslyn performed the surgery with a great deal of care and attention 🐶✨

Tail amputations can actually be quite delicate procedures, as tails contain a large number of blood vessels and can be surprisingly tricky to repair. Because of this, surgery often requires meticulous technique and careful suturing to ensure the wound is closed securely and heals well.

We’re very happy to report that recovery is going beautifully so far 💛
With regular bandage changes, close monitoring, and lots of TLC from the team, healing is progressing well.

🐾💛 Meet Willow 💛🐾

Beautiful Willow the Shetland Sheepdog was recently in our care at Our Vet Mornington for an exciting and advanced treatment option — Stem Cell Therapy for her hips and elbows 🐶✨

Willow’s procedure was performed by the incredible visiting specialist team from Melbourne Animal Referral Services, who we were so pleased to work alongside to help support Willow’s comfort and mobility.

So, what exactly is Stem Cell Therapy?

Stem cell therapy is an innovative regenerative treatment used to help manage conditions such as arthritis, joint disease, and chronic pain. The procedure uses stem cells — most commonly collected from the patient’s own fat tissue — which are specially processed and then injected into affected joints.

These stem cells can help:
🐾 Reduce inflammation
🐾 Support healing and tissue repair
🐾 Improve mobility and joint function
🐾 Decrease pain and discomfort
🐾 Improve overall quality of life

For many pets, stem cell therapy can be a fantastic option to help keep them comfortable and active, especially for those struggling with degenerative joint disease or arthritis.

Willow was an absolute superstar throughout her treatment, and we feel so lucky to be part of her care journey 💕

🐾💖 Sweet Sophie 💖🐾

Gorgeous little Sophie the Ragdoll recently spent the day with us at Our Vet Mornington for her desexing procedure — and she truly was the purrfect patient 🐱✨

This beautiful little lady soaked up plenty of cuddles and affection from Nurse Kelly during her stay, and honestly… cuddle time is one of our favourite parts of the day 💛 There’s nothing better than helping our patients feel safe, comfortable, and loved while they’re away from home.

Desexing is such an important part of your pet’s healthcare journey. Along with helping to prevent unwanted litters, it can also provide a range of health and behavioural benefits for both cats and dogs, helping them live healthier and happier lives.

Sophie handled her day like an absolute superstar, complete with gentle purrs, sweet snuggles, and lots of charm 🐾

We hope you’re recovering well at home, beautiful girl 💕
