SA livestock owners, a quick reminder to get you ready for show season!
If you keep any livestock in South Australia, even just one horse, goat, sheep, cow, pig, alpaca, llama, camel, deer, buffalo, donkey or mule, or commercial poultry, your property must be registered with a Property Identification Code (PIC).
A PIC is a legal requirement under the Livestock Act 1997 and a vital part of SA’s livestock traceability system.
Why it matters:
-Get alerts fast if something threatens your animals. Disease outbreaks, bushfires, floods or other emergencies, PIRSA can contact you straight away, helping protect your animals, pets and prevent financial loss.
-Protect your livestock from disease. Fast tracing stops outbreaks on nearby properties from reaching your animals, keeping them safe.
-Help keep SA markets open. Traceability protects everyone, hobby owners, lifestyle blocks, and big producers alike, by maintaining market access and keeping livestock moving legally.
