HORSE DRAWN CARRIAGES HAVE BEEN BANNED IN MELBOURNE FROM JUNE 13TH 2022!!!

We need your help. Please help us be louder than the minority. Just a minute out of your day could help make a big impact.

Last week the Transport Minister Ben Carroll made the decision to BAN ALL Horse Drawn Vehicles from Melbourne CBD from June 13th 2022. He has only given us 1 months notice, that’s right only 1 month!!

This is absolutely devastating. In three weeks we will not have enough income to feed and care for all of our horses or our families. Coming into winter this is going to be very hard. Our staff and their families will be unemployed. The last two years have been extremely hard for us and we have spent our savings and sold our assets trying to stay afloat.

Ben Carroll and the State Government hasn’t offered us any support at all!!!

WE REALLY NEED YOUR HELP! Please send Ben Carroll & Dan Andrew’s an email. Please ask them to reconsider their decision. Please tell them why you want us to stay in Melbourne. If you’ve been on a ride with us tell them that you enjoyed it.

Horse-Drawn Carriages Will Banned From Melbourne's CBD

Horse-drawn carriages will be banned from the Melbourne CBD from next month after the Andrews government overhauled local road rules.

Despite the CBD ban, they will still be permitted on the outskirts of the city, including at the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Transport Minister Ben Carroll said it would make travelling within the Hoddle Grid safer for commuters, pedestrians and motorists around the city centre.

The ban will come into effect from June, with carriages barred from Spencer to Spring and Flinders to La Trobe streets.

Mr Carroll has said he believes it is a "transition to what we think will be a better practice for [operators], a better alternative for their horses, and also a better alternative for tourists.”

Animal activists had staged a long campaign for the ban.

Ben Carroll MP states it’s for safety reasons yet we ARE the safest vehicle on the road!
I read today that there have been 1000 tram to vehicle accidents every year for the last 5 years! That’s an average of 3 collisions every day. In 2018-2019 they had 380 minor injuries and 32 serious injuries onboard trams and that’s just the tram statistics! Yet they are banning us for safety reasons 🤦🏼‍♀️

CONFIRMED: Horse-drawn carriages will be prohibited from operating in Melbourne's CBD from next month.

Once considered an iconic tourist attraction, an update to the city's road rules will now see the services banned from the Hoddle Grid.

‼️ We really need your support ‼️
The last 2 years has been extremely challenging for us. We have hardly worked but our expenses haven’t changed. Caring and looking after over 100 horses and our families has been a real struggle. Just when we felt there was light at the end of the tunnel and things started to look up with the easing of restrictions the Melbourne City Council and state government have said they are going to ban us by February next year giving us just over ONE months notice! They show no sympathy and haven’t offered support in anyway.

The Melbourne City Council organised a forum to discuss the Future of Melbourne Horse Drawn Carriages. We were set to have a meeting Friday at 10am. The impression we were lead to believe is that we would work together to come to a happy medium to create a better future for our industry. We felt the attendees invited by the Council was very unfair as they invited animal rights extremists/activists and also political parties such as the Animal Justice party they didn’t invite any qualified equine professionals such as veterinarians. On Thursday night at about 5.45pm the Melbourne City council contacted us and said the meeting agenda had changed and that they needed to call us because it had been sent to the media. He informed us that The Melbourne City Council and State Government have organised to have the carriages banned by Jan/February next year. This was a huge shock to us.
At the meeting Friday they said the ban is going to be put in place at the end of January or Early February but it has to go through consultation first. The meeting was horrible! The Melbourne City council was extremely unsympathetic, the animal extremists and political party pushed to have it done sooner.

🔵 How can YOU help?! 🔵
This is now going through a consultation stage with the State government and Melbourne city council. We desperately need our customers, friends, family and the equine community to come together to email the State Government and council expressing that you don’t want us banned. If you have used our services please attach a photo, share a happy memory with them. We need to be heard loud and clear. The activists are a small minority but they are loud- we need to be louder! We need them to know the majority want us to stay.

Over the last two years 2 companies have gone out of business. Due to the very tragic and sudden death of Alex McDonald from Classic Carriages they won’t be returning either. There are only 2 carriage companies remaining!!

We really appreciate your support!
