Black cats are some of the most overlooked cats in shelters, and sadly, we see it firsthand at SADS. 💔
We have so many beautiful black cats waiting in our cattery for someone to choose them, yet they often receive very little interest compared to other cats.

But every single one of them has their own little quirks, personality and so much love to give. They deserve just as much chance at finding their forever home as any other cat. ❤️

🎂 THE BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT FOR CROCS 💗

Two days ago, we shared Crocs with you for the very first time. By the morning, we had received 20+ applications for this gorgeous girl, so many that we had to close applications first thing that morning.

And today, on her birthday, Crocs got the best present of all… she’s heading off to her forever family. 🥹🏡

We couldn’t be happier for her. But there’s something we want to say too.

Crocs is a beautiful purebred Ragdoll, and it’s hard not to notice the difference in interest when we post a cat like her compared with some of the cats who have been waiting patiently for weeks, months, or even longer.

We have so many beautiful cats sitting in our cattery who are just as loving, deserving and ready for a family, but their posts can receive very little interest simply because they aren’t a particular breed or don’t have the same look.

They all deserve to be someone’s “perfect cat”. ❤️

So while today is absolutely about celebrating Crocs and her happy ending, we hope you’ll also take a look at the other cats waiting for theirs.

In 2016, Abby (then known as Tara) was just 8 months old when she found her forever home. 🥹💛

Abby had been at SADS since she was 8 weeks old, after her litter was found living in bushland with their owner. She was incredibly shy and timid, even nervous about going up stairs.

Her adopter had originally come to SADS to meet another dog, but when that wasn’t the right fit, she asked if someone could bring her a dog they thought would suit her. That’s when she met Abby.

At first, she wasn’t sure she felt that instant connection. But while sitting on the steps talking to her mum on the phone, Abby walked over and put her nose in her ear. 🤣🥰 And just like that, she knew Abby was coming home!

By day two, Abby was off lead, and she’s rarely needed one since. She’s grown into a loyal, obedient and confident girl who has shared an incredible life with her human.

From coming to work in a truck every day, joining trail rides alongside her horse and herding sheep, to travelling almost all the way around Australia since 2022, Abby has been by her side through it all. She loves swimming at beautiful beaches, enjoyed weekly puppacinos and laundromat trips during Melbourne’s lockdowns, and now keeps her two Staffy brothers in line! 😂

Her adventures continue, and these days, she’s also become a frequent visitor at the gym and massage clinic where her adopter now works. 🐾

DNA tests revealed Abby is a German Shepherd x Rottweiler x Cattle Dog x Staffy, but to her adopter, she’s simply the best dog she could have asked for.

One of the most special parts of their journey has been watching that timid little shelter pup blossom into a big, boisterous, confident girl. 💛

Sometimes, the dog you weren't even looking for turns out to be the one you were always meant to find. 🥹

At 11 years old, Billion deserves to spend her golden years somewhere she can truly call home. 🤍

Billion is an independent girl who is perfectly happy doing her own thing. She loves finding a new cosy spot to curl up in and doesn’t ask for much, just a quiet, comfortable home where she can feel safe and spend her days at her own pace. 🥺🐾

Once she gets to know you, Billion enjoys a good pat and will happily have a little chat around mealtimes. She needs an adult-only home where she can be the only cat and enjoy the peaceful life she deserves. ❤️

Billion has been a long-termer with us, and we’d love nothing more than to see her golden years spent in a home, not a shelter. 🐾

From a terrified stray who knew so little about people to a girl who now enjoys being held close. 🥹❤️ Cheeto has come such a long way, and watching her learn to trust has been so special.

At around 2 years old, Cheeto is playful, curious and full of personality. She's still learning to feel safe around people, but with patience and gentle care, she's discovering just how lovely affection can be. 💗

Cheeto is looking for a calm, adult only home with someone who understands that trust takes time and respects her boundaries. She must be an indoor only cat and could live with a friendly, confident feline companion who can help her settle in.

She's made so much progress, and we know there's still so much more to come. Now she just needs a family who will give her the chance to keep blossoming. 🏡🐾

Jazzy may be an older Malamute, but don’t tell her that! This sweet senior girl still has plenty of spring in her step and loves getting out and about. ❤️

Jazzy absolutely adores people and would love to spend her golden years as someone’s centre of attention. She’s affectionate, gentle, and thrives on human companionship, so she’d love a home where someone is around most of the time.

Jazzy doesn’t mind other dogs but is much happier doing her own thing, so she’d love to be the only dog in the household. She’s also partially toilet trained and will benefit from a consistent routine.

Some dogs just need a little longer for their happy ending. ❤️🐾 And Tarz is proof of exactly why we are a no kill organisation.

Early last year, Tarz went viral. Thousands of people saw his videos, shared his story and fell in love with him. Yet despite all the attention, the right home never came.

Tarz spent a long time in our care. He was often misunderstood, faced his own challenges, including losing an ear, and continued to be overlooked. But we never stopped believing his person was out there.

When Tarz entered foster care, he blossomed. And today, TARZ WAS ADOPTED! ❤️🏡

Some people believe keeping healthy dogs in shelters for longer periods is cruel, and that euthanasia would be kinder. We disagree.

This is why we are no kill. Because we believe these dogs deserve the time, patience and opportunity for that one special person to finally see them for who they are.

Tarz didn't need the whole world to choose him. He just needed one person to see what we had seen all along.

To his wonderful foster carers and new family, thank you for giving Tarz the life he always deserved.

His life was worth waiting for. And we think his story speaks for itself. ❤️

Meet Mace! ❤️ This 9 year old Staffy X is proof that age is just a number when you have this much life and love left to give! 😂🐾

Mace is a happy, energetic boy who loves his walks, finding toys and spending time with his favourite people. He’s looking for an active, experienced home where he can enjoy plenty of adventures, mental stimulation and, most importantly, lots of human company.

Mace would love to be the only dog in the home, where he can soak up all the attention. He also needs a family who are around most of the time, as he doesn’t cope well with being left alone for long periods. An adult only home would be best for this fun loving boy. ❤️

At 9 years old, Mace still has so much life to live and so much love to give. We hope someone will see past his age and give him the chance to spend his golden years surrounded by love, toys and adventures. 🥹🏡
