🐴 Why Biothane?

I thought this was an interesting read to share — an article (link at bottom) published by our old Sedgwick Leather supplier discussing Biothane vs Leather.

Most of you probably know by now that I’m a huge believer in Biothane! 😂

That’s certainly not to say leather doesn’t have its place. I worked with leather for many years, and for some people traditional will always be a must — and that’s absolutely fine!

I started Carrington Saddlery over 20 years ago making leather show bridles, with the aim of offering people a quality product at a more affordable price.

Around 4 years ago I moved solely to Biothane for health reasons, and as Biothane continued to progress, I expanded into our Biothane Led Show Bridles for exactly the same reason I started Carrington all those years ago — quality gear at a more achievable price.

And I haven’t looked back!

Biothane is strong, waterproof, easy to clean, low maintenance and incredibly durable. The quality available nowadays is fantastic too — I’ve had plenty of people handle our show bridles and initially assume they were leather!

Is it traditional? No.
Does everyone have to love it? Of course not! 😂

But particularly with the cost of everything nowadays, I genuinely believe it offers horse owners a fantastic, practical and cost-effective alternative.

A few little random orders to kick off the week! 🐴

First up, a set of Tiny Tot Stirrups made to a special request. These needed to be around 30cm long, so I made the 30cm measurement the second shortest hole — giving a little room to go shorter if needed, but plenty of adjustment for growing little legs too!

Then a bunch of our beautiful Slip Collars, which continue to be super popular with the Great Dane people 🐶 And of course, each one has a matching lead!

And lastly… the full cut-out for a rather large Halter Trophy order 😳 That little pile is going to keep me very busy sewing for the next few days!

A huge thank you to everyone for being so understanding earlier this week while things were a little up in the air here. ❤️

Things have settled down somewhat now, and with the medical team having a plan in place, life and work should start getting a little more back to normal again!

🐴 A little something new from Carrington! 🐴

After quite a few requests for these, I’ve finally added Welsh Pony Show Halters to the range!

These two were my first order and I’m pretty happy with how they’ve come together. 😍

Made in Black Biothane with Brass fittings, they feature:

🐴 Double buckle head strap
🐴 Fully stitched poll & nose straps
🐴 Delicate stop squares on the sides
🐴 Fine 5/8” wide strapping

And being Biothane, they still have all the things we love — super durable, waterproof, UV resistant, easy to clean and a lovely leather-look finish without all the fuss!

These ones were made in Black at the customer’s request, but Brown is also available.

I’m in the workshop all day today, so all completed orders will head out, along with all others I get done today!

I have tried to make more room in my workshop this morning to be more organised, and I stumbled across some drawers with leather scraps in them! Be great for repairs, crafting etc.

Selling as a bulk lot, all is Sedgwick English bridle leather. As a bulk probably weights about 5-6kg worth.

Quick little update from me 💕

Things might be running on a bit of a random schedule here at Carrington for the next little while.

Unfortunately, a family member was hospitalised over the weekend and with lots of tests still happening, I’m needing to be available to help out a bit more than usual.

I did manage to smash out a heap of orders yesterday afternoon 🙌 and I’m hoping to get those all packaged up this afternoon and off to the post office. I’ll just keep fitting work in wherever I can around everything else.

Currently sitting at the hospital trying to catch a doctor for an update… so definitely taking things a little bit day by day at the moment!
