Warning for Dog Owners – Mushroom Toxicity
With the recent cool, damp weather, mushrooms are starting to pop up in gardens, parks, and bushland around McLaren Vale — and some can be deadly to dogs.
Toxic mushrooms can cause serious illness or even death in dogs, and unfortunately, it can be almost impossible to tell the safe varieties from the dangerous ones without expert identification.
What you should do:
- Remove mushrooms from your yard as soon as you see them
- Keep your dog on-lead in areas where mushrooms may be growing
- Seek urgent veterinary care if you suspect your dog has eaten one — even a small amount can be dangerous
