Happy Father’s Day 🐾

Today we’re celebrating all the dads who said they didn’t want a pet… and are now completely wrapped around their paw.

The dads who “aren’t animal people” but somehow have a favourite spot on the couch reserved for the dog. The ones who sneak extra treats, share their snacks, carry them around like royalty, and pretend they’re not absolutely obsessed.

Whether you’re a dad to two-legged kids, four-legged kids, feathered kids, or the pet you definitely “didn’t want,” we hope your day is filled with love, laughs and plenty of cuddles.

Happy Father’s Day from all of us at McLaren Vale Veterinary Surgery 🩵

🐾🎓 August Puppy School Graduates 🎓🐾

A big congratulations to our recent puppy school graduates, Hank, Milo, Rusty and Suki!

We had such a lovely time watching this group grow in confidence, practise new skills and take those important first steps in their training and socialisation journey.

Puppy school is a wonderful way for young puppies to experience new sights, sounds, people and other dogs in a positive and supportive environment.

We hope their families are very proud of their clever graduates, we certainly loved having them in class!

Interested in joining one of our upcoming puppy school classes? Give our team a call on 8323 8522 to find out more.

✨ Meet the Team ✨

Next up in our staff introduction series is Bayden, our Assistant Nurse.

Bayden is the only Assistant Nurse on our team and brings plenty of enthusiasm, kindness and a real love of animals to the clinic each day. He enjoys getting to know our clients and their pets, has a strong interest in animal behaviour, and is never one to turn down a puppy cuddle.

Originally from Darwin, Bayden loves spending time outdoors and at home has one very special pet, Thunda. He also hopes to one day become a zoologist working with big cats.

We’re so glad to have Bayden as part of the McLaren Vale Veterinary Surgery team, and we can’t wait to introduce you to more of the friendly faces around the clinic 🐾

Today is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day 🌈

A day to remember the much-loved pets who are no longer by our side, but will always be part of the family.

Our pets leave such a lasting mark on our lives, through the routines they shared with us, the comfort they gave, the little habits we still think about, and the unconditional love they brought into our homes.

For anyone missing a beloved pet today, we’re thinking of you.

If you’d like to, we invite you to share their name or a favourite memory in the comments below so we can remember them with you 🩵

Happy International Dog Day 🐾

Today we’re celebrating some of the much-loved dogs from our team, the loyal companions, snack enthusiasts, cuddle bugs and professional toy destroyers who make our lives so much brighter.

Dogs bring so much joy, love and personality into our homes. Whether they’re greeting us like we’ve been gone for days, joining us on adventures, stealing the best spot on the couch, or simply being their beautiful selves, life really is better with dogs.

We feel very lucky to spend our days caring for your pets, and even luckier to go home to our own.

To celebrate, we’d love to see your dogs too! Share a photo of your dog in the comments below and tell us their name, or what they do that makes you smile 🩵

✨ Meet the Team ✨

Next up in our staff introduction series is Dr Meghan, one of our wonderful veterinarians.

Dr Meghan brings so much care, energy and dedication to her patients, and loves the problem-solving side of veterinary medicine, especially piecing together more complicated cases and finding answers.

She’s originally from Canada, is a country girl at heart, and is always up for a good book, a local winery visit, or time spent with her much-loved pets, Maple, Stanley and Yuki.

We’re so lucky to have Dr Meghan as part of our team, and we can’t wait to introduce you to more of the friendly faces here at McLaren Vale Veterinary Surgery 🐾

Meet Wilma 🐾 Wilma came in after injuring her left hind leg, and X-rays confirmed a fracture of her tibia. It was a significant injury, so she needed surgical repair to stabilise the bone and give it the best chance to heal properly.

Dr Phil repaired the fracture using a plate and screws, and Wilma then started the very important recovery process. Strict rest, medication, wound checks, rechecks, and lots of patience at home.

Orthopaedic recoveries can take time, and follow-up care is a big part of achieving a good outcome. Wilma’s family did a fantastic job following her recovery plan and bringing her in for her progress checks along the way.

We’re very happy to share that Wilma’s final X-rays showed her fracture is healing well and her repair is looking great. Well done Wilma, you have been a very brave patient, and we’re so pleased to see you doing so well 🩵

If your pet is in need of any orthopaedic treatment, give our highly experienced team a call on 8323 8522!

Big or small, we’ve got them covered 🐾

Our post-surgery recovery suits are available in a range of sizes to help keep suitable patients comfortable and protected while they recover.

Recovery suits can be a great alternative to the cone for some procedures, helping to protect surgical sites while allowing pets to rest and move around more comfortably. They are available for both dogs and cats, with prices ranging from $30–$39.50 depending on size.

They won’t be suitable for every patient or every procedure, but our team can let you know if a recovery suit is the right option for your pet.

If your pet has an upcoming procedure, feel free to ask our team about recovery suit options at their admission!

Today is Check the Chip Day 🐾

A microchip is one of the most important ways to help reunite lost pets with their families, but it can only do its job if the details attached to it are correct.

It’s a good idea to check your pet’s microchip details if you have moved house, changed phone number, changed email address, adopted or rehomed a pet, changed surname, or even have a new emergency contact.

Even if nothing has changed recently, today is a great reminder to make sure your pet’s details are up to date and easy to access if they ever become lost.

If you’re unsure of your pet’s microchip number, we can scan their chip at their next visit. For updating your contact details, you’ll need to do this directly through your pet’s microchip registry.

A few minutes spent checking today could make a big difference if your pet ever needs help finding their way home.
