🦷 Could your pet have dental disease? 🦷

Dental disease is one of the most common health problems we see in dogs and cats – and it can cause pain, infection, and even shorten their life if left untreated.

Look out for these warning signs:
• Red, swollen or bleeding gums
• Yellow calculus (tartar) on teeth
• Pawing or rubbing at the mouth
• Bad breath
• Difficulty chewing or eating on one side
• Loose teeth
• Changes in behaviour such as grumpiness, aggression or laziness

If your pet shows any of these signs, it’s time for a dental health check.

We are offering FREE nurse dental consults at McLaren Vale Veterinary Surgery this month to help keep your pet’s mouth healthy and pain-free.

Warning for Dog Owners – Mushroom Toxicity

With the recent cool, damp weather, mushrooms are starting to pop up in gardens, parks, and bushland around McLaren Vale — and some can be deadly to dogs.

Toxic mushrooms can cause serious illness or even death in dogs, and unfortunately, it can be almost impossible to tell the safe varieties from the dangerous ones without expert identification.

What you should do:

- Remove mushrooms from your yard as soon as you see them
- Keep your dog on-lead in areas where mushrooms may be growing
- Seek urgent veterinary care if you suspect your dog has eaten one — even a small amount can be dangerous

Learn more about mushroom toxicity, what signs to watch for, and what to do if your dog is exposed in our article in the comments section.

📞 If you think your dog may have eaten a mushroom, call us immediately on (08) 8323 8522 — early treatment can save lives.

Pregnant vet helps pregnant pup! 💕🐾

We’ve been helping little Echo the miniature schnauzer manage her pregnancy, and with all those puppies growing inside, she was starting to feel pretty sore. Luckily, Dr Meghan could definitely relate — being very pregnant herself!

Over the weekend, Echo let us know it was time, and she needed a helping hand. Dr Meghan, along with nurse Jody and nurse Deb, jumped into action and performed a caesarean — safely delivering five healthy puppies!

Congratulations to Echo and her lovely family — we’re so thrilled to be a part of such a special moment

🐾💚 Thank you Willunga Primary School 💚🐾

We were thrilled to receive a Certificate of Appreciation from Willunga Primary School for our recent donation of a gift pack to support their Silent Auction fundraiser held recently.

The funds raised are going towards enhancing the school’s outdoor play area. 🌿🛝✨

At McLaren Vale Veterinary Surgery, we love being part of this amazing community and supporting our local schools wherever we can.
Thank you, Willunga Primary, for the kind recognition — and keep up the great work! 📚🐶🐾

Is your pet really just “getting old” or could it be arthritis?

Stiff in the mornings?
Hesitating to jump into the car?
Not as keen for walks or playtime?

These subtle changes are often put down to age, but they’re actually some of the first signs of arthritis – a painful (but very treatable!) condition we see in so many senior pets.

At McLaren Vale Vets, we offer Senior Pet Health Checks that focus on early detection of arthritis and other age-related changes. We have a range of treatment options and we’ll tailor a plan to suit your pet’s needs, lifestyle and comfort.

The best part? We’ve seen so many pets go from slow and sore… back to happy, playful and pain-free.

Give us a call on 8323 8522 or book online – and let’s help your golden oldie feel golden again.
