Dear clients,
We want to reassure you that we have not had any recent cases of parvovirus at our clinic that we have been made aware of.
But we are also vigilant and will always let the public know of any known outbreaks.
The main clinical sign of Parvovirus is a liquid diarrhoea that may contain blood. Other signs include β putrid smell, progressive (or acute) flatness, inappetence, dehydration, vomiting.
Parvovirus is a highly contagious, serious disease of dogs that requires intensive hospitalisation and supportive care. Preventative management of Parvovirus is much more favorable than the treatment.
Thankfully, the C4/C5 vaccination is effective in protecting against Parvovirus. Although dogs can still contract Parvovirus, the clinical signs are less severe. Vaccination also reduces transmission directly between dogs and indirectly via soil. Parvovirus can survive in the environment for months up to years even and is highly resistant to many disinfectants.
Please make sure your dog(s) are up to date with their vaccinations. If you are unsure, please do not hesitate to give us a call to confirm on 8185 8000.
Kind Regards,
Greencross Vets Noarlunga.
