It's a good day to save the forests! 🌿 All across the country yesterday, thousands of people came together to demand and end to native forest logging and stronger protection for nature. Led by the Bob Brown Foundation, we marched through the streets of Lismore in a stunning display of homemade banners and catchy chanting, complete with an iconic possum flash mob!

In Australia, about 50% of our native forests have been lost in the past 200 years, and that number is only set to rise if logging continues. That's why we marched yesterday - to be the voice for the trees, for the animals, and for the generations to come who deserve to live on a healthy, thriving planet.

What an incredible 10 days of environmental activism! 💚🌏

Rising Tide brought over 7,000 Aussies together for our second annual Newcastle coal port blockade, which was the most joyful and energetic way to send a clear message to our Government - Australians love nature and want to protect it!! 🌿🩷

After 6 days of awesome workshops, live music, plant-based meals, banner painting, community building, and kayaking, 170 people were arrested for blocking ships from leaving the world's largest coal port. This attracted massive worldwide media coverage and put pressure on our Government to end new coal and gas projects, and tax current ones at 78% to fund the transition to renewables! 🌞

We kept the momentum going all the way to Canberra, where we were welcomed by the Aboriginal Tent Embassy 🔥 Together we rallied at Parliament House, where a further 22 people were arrested for holding the road. This was the final day that Parliament was sitting before the federal election, and it's safe to say that our politicians heard our voice! ✊️

It's vital now more than ever to stand up and show your support for strong, unwavering, and enforced nature protection laws in Australia. We are in a climate emergency, experiencing heartbreaking biodiversity loss and the hottest year on record. To secure a safe future for our children, we need to act NOW! Teaching kids how to love and care for wildlife is a dream come true! We had so much fun during our workshop for home-school families at the community garden, and will be holding many more in the future! ✨️

Our goal is to establish a nation-wide school education program taught by a passionate team of wildlife educators. We're going to make sure that every child, in every school, every year, is visited by Gaia! 🌿

These workshops are designed to educate and empower the next generation of Australia's wildlife carers, helping to create a happy, healthy, and harmonious world for people and animals 🦋

Feeling very inspired to create a humble little hobbit home! 🏡 I challenge you to find a more sustainable, comfortable, and whimsical way of living than that of Hobbiton, New Zealand 🌿

🍓 Food forests in every front yard
🌱 Grass roofs for insulation
🍂 Made from the earth - stone, wood, and clay
💡 No electricity or appliances
🫂 Neighbours around every corner
🌷 Thousands of flowers for the bees

Gaia's wildlife hospital will have to be very sterile and proper - but the kitchen, learning centre, and volunteer accommodation definitely won't be! Colour, creativity, and eco-friendliness will guide our design, allowing us to live as an extension of mother nature 😌

So if, like me, your nervous system feels like it's on fire when faced with cars, concrete, and sleek modern architecture, then Gaia Village might just be the place for you...

We had the pleasure of teaching lots of Sunny Coast locals about wildlife at our workshop yesterday! ☺️

We learned all about conservation, wildlife care and rescue, snake bite treatment, plant-based living, nature journalling, gardening, and self care 🩷🐨

Very big love and thanks to our beautiful volunteers Camila and Billie, who cooked us a delish vegan lunch and decorated our space 🙏

Today is the last day Queensland Parliament is sitting before the state election, and we made sure they heard nature's voice! 🌱

We're demanding that our newly elected MPs:
🐨 Fund an Environmental Recovery Plan. It will take just $2 billion per year to restore and regenerate Australia's precious flora and fauna. That's only 1% of the federal budget!
💪 Establish an independent Environmental Protection Agency to investigate and prosecute those who disrespect nature
🦋 Double our protected areas by 2030
🌲 End deforestation completely

This is critical now more than ever. Without change, half of the planet's species will be lost within 200 years, and it will take 1 million years to recover. That's 10,000 generations of humans who won't get to enjoy the rich biodiversity we see today. That's if we survive that long - we don't exist without biodiversity! 🫣

Our state elections are coming up very soon. Let's create a happier, healthier planet for all by voting with our land and wildlife as our priority 💚

Spencer Hitchen is a 13 year old frontline crusader for the protection of native wildlife and their habitats 🙌

Hosting an art exhibition and panel discussion this week has been the least of his achievements. Spencer has spent the past 6 years rallying his community to save Noosa bushland and the Glossy Black Cockatoos who call the area home 🪶

On September 9th, we'll be celebrating the second annual Stand Up For Nature Day, which he created in honour of Fledge, a local Cockatoo who died as a result of deforestation on that day 🍂

We're all invited to make a Pledge for Fledge - What will you do to stand up for nature?

The art exhibition is open until the 5th of September at the Noosa Junction Gallery. Some very talented local artists, including Spencer, have their incredible art displayed 🌻

🌲 Happy National Tree Day! 🌴

I had an awesome time planting trees in the Sunshine Coast today - lots of yummy natives for the possums, birds, bats,
and bees to enjoy! 🦜🦋🐝

It's so cheap and easy to create food and habitat for wildlife - just stick a few seedlings in the ground, water them if you remember, and watch them thrive 🌞

Australia is experiencing a hectic deforestation and extinction crisis right now, and it's up to all of us to rewild our beautiful country. Every small step you take makes a big difference for our flora and fauna - that one tree you plant will feed generations of lorikeets and flying foxes, and also clean our air and water, regenerate soil, and cool the climate 🌊

Thank you for doing your bit! You're amazing!! Go to the nursery tomorrow and buy trees!!! 😍🌿
