Big moment in the fish room πŸ‘€πŸ§‘

After such a long time, our Orange Spot Bristlenose pair are finally showing breeding behaviour again!

You can see the female sitting inside the cave while the male guards the entrance and makes sure she stays tucked away safely. If all goes well, hopefully there will be eggs very soon 🀞

Orange Spot Bristlenose (Rio Ucayali) are a rarer type of bristlenose pleco, so seeing this behaviour again is pretty exciting.

Now we wait and see if the male gets the cave full of eggs πŸ₯šπŸŸ

New fish room addition - Pygmy Corydoras (Corydoras pygmaeus) 🐟

These tiny little corydoras stay around just 2.5–3cm fully grown, making them an excellent choice for nano aquariums and small peaceful community tanks.

Unlike larger corys that spend majority of their time on the floor, Pygmy Corydoras like to spend more time midwater swimming in little schools! Their peaceful nature makes them a great option for beginners, planted tanks, and community setups with other small, non-aggressive fish.

βœ” Peaceful community fish
βœ” Great for planted and nano aquariums
βœ” Beginner friendly
βœ” Best kept in groups

Just make sure tank mates are peaceful and small enough not to see them as food.

Update on the discus eggs πŸ‘€πŸŸ

They unfortunately ended up eating this batch, which is quite common, especially with newer pairs.

It can take a few attempts for cichlids like discus to learn how to successfully raise a clutch. They may even eat eggs or fry a few times while figuring things out, but usually improve with each spawn.

At least now we know we’ve got a pair, and we’ll be watching closely for the next attempt πŸ‘€

Exciting news in the fishroom!
Discus laying and fertilising eggs πŸ‘€πŸŸ

First batch from this pair, always so cool capture moments like this in the fish room!

Discus are egg-layers, with the female laying eggs while the male follows closely behind to fertilise them. They’ll usually choose flat surfaces or broad leaves to lay on, just like in this video πŸ‘€

Let’s see how this one goes 🀞

Not all plecos stay small πŸ‘€

Many beginners buy a pleco thinking they all suit community tanks. Some species stay manageable, while others grow far larger than expected.

For example, common plecos can grow very large and often need aquariums around 300 litres or more!

Bristlenose plecos on the other hand are often a much more suitable option for many home aquariums as they stay much smaller in size.

If you’d like to learn more about caring for them, I’ve got a beginner-friendly guide here

Plenty happening behind the scenes in the fish room this weekend πŸ‘€πŸŸ

β€’ New shell dwellers have settled in perfectly and are thriving

β€’ Danio fry are growing fast and coming along nicely

β€’ Peppermint bristlenose are sizing up well

β€’ Longfin calico bristlenose are producing strong numbers again

β€’ We found a suprise batch of Longfin super red bristlenose fry πŸ‘€

Our black angelfish have finally laid a clutch of eggs that made it past the first stage, however after a few attempts of them eating their eggs and fry, we’ve now decided to remove the eggs and hatch them ourselves this time. Hopefully we’ll have some black angel fry soon πŸ‘€

Lots in the works, with more favourites and higher stock numbers expected to continue building over the coming months!

These tiny fish live in shells πŸ‘€πŸš

New addition to the fish room: Multifasciatus!

Small enough to fit in a shell… bold enough to defend it πŸ˜…

Perfect for smaller aquariums around 30–80 litres, but do prefer longer tanks than taller, making them a very great option for smaller tanks when set up correctly.

One of the most interesting little fish you can keep. Stay tuned πŸ‘€
