Meet Tato... a gorgeous 2-year-old ginger boy with a heart as big as his personality.

🦆 Our Little Mystery Duck Has Found Her Forever Home… 💚

Sometimes the best stories are the ones we never see coming.

A little while ago we asked you to help a beautiful little duck who wandered into one of our clients’ yards. Together, our incredible community shared her story far and wide, and our team spent countless hours door knocking throughout the neighbourhood in the hope of finding her family.

While staying safely with I Care 4 Your Pets, our resident chickens, Roberta and Tai, welcomed their unexpected house guest while our community searched for her missing owner. She enjoyed plenty of food, fresh water, a safe place to rest and, most importantly, lots of love while we waited for someone to come forward.

Sadly, no one ever did.

Not wanting her story to end there, we reached out to The Owl & The PussyCat Farm Animal Sanctuary. From the very first conversation, they went above and beyond, working alongside us to find the perfect forever home.

Before long, they introduced us to the lovely Susie, whose beloved pet duck, Bob, had recently lost his lifelong companion.

It felt like fate.

On a rainy winter’s day last week—quite fitting for a duck!—our team made the journey to Crabbes Creek to deliver our little feathered friend safely to her forever home.

We were also incredibly fortunate to be shown around The Owl & The PussyCat Farm Animal Sanctuary and witness firsthand the amazing work their volunteers do every day. Their compassion, dedication and tireless commitment to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming farm animals is truly inspiring.

Then came the moment we’d all been hoping for…

Bob met his new companion.

With a brand new chapter beginning, it only seemed fitting that she should have a name of her own.

Welcome to your forever home, sweet Jemima. 💚

Inspired by Beatrix Potter’s beloved Jemima Puddle-Duck, her new name marks the beginning of a life filled with friendship, safety and love.

To everyone who shared our original post, kept an eye out, offered advice, or simply cared about one little lost duck…

Thank you.

Because of you, this story didn’t end with a lost duck.

It ended with a forever home.

I WAS BITTEN THIS WEEK… BUT NOT BY WHO YOU’D EXPECT!

ESPECIALLY IN WINTER! ❄️

Think paralysis ticks disappear when the weather cools down?

Think again.

This little hitchhiker was attached to me after walking dogs this week right here in suburbia in the Northern Rivers.

Many people assume ticks are only a spring and summer problem, but our mild winters mean paralysis ticks can remain active all year round. While numbers may reduce during colder months, they’re still very much out there waiting for a passing host.

As someone who spends every day outdoors with your pets, tick checks are part of my routine, but this tiny paralysis tick still managed to sneak through and attach itself between my shoulder blades!

🐾 What this means for your pets:
• Check your dog (and cats that go outdoors) every single day.
• Pay extra attention around the head, ears, neck, lips, under the collar, armpits and between the toes.
• Keep your pet’s tick prevention up to date all year round, not just in summer.
• If your pet shows weakness, wobbly legs, vomiting, changes to their bark or meow, difficulty swallowing or breathing, seek veterinary attention immediately. Paralysis tick toxicity is an emergency.

We’re incredibly lucky to live in such a beautiful part of Australia, but our local wildlife comes with a few hidden surprises.

This tiny but deadly tick is a good reminder that even in the middle of winter, tick season isn’t over in the Northern Rivers.
