🌡️ Heat Stroke in Dogs – What Every Pet Owner Needs to Know 💜

As temperatures rise, our furry family can be at risk of heat stroke.
This is a serious, life-threatening condition and all dogs are potentially at risk. Knowing what the signs are and how to prevent it can save your dog’s life 🐶

⚠️ Signs to look out for:
• Heavy panting or difficulty breathing 🫁
• Excessive drooling and/or foaming at the mouth 😰
• Bright red or pale gums 👄
• Vomiting or diarrhea 🤢
• Weakness, wobbliness, collapse, or seizures 🛌
• Rapid heartbeat or uncoordinated movements 💓
• Trying to cool down 🌬
• High body temperature 🌡️

🐾 Dogs at higher risk:
• Brachycephalic breeds (like Bulldogs, Frenchies, Pugs, and Boxers) 😮‍💨
• Puppies, seniors, and overweight dogs 🐕
• Dogs with underlying health conditions 💊
• High-energy or very active dogs that overexert themselves in the heat 🏃‍♂️💨

💧 Prevention tips:
• Avoid exercise during the hottest parts of the day ☀️
• Provide plenty of fresh water and shaded areas 🌳
• In extreme heat try to keep your dog inside where it is cooler 🌬️
• Never leave your dog in a parked car 🚗❌
• Use cooling mats or vests for sensitive dogs 🧊
• Frozen treats and frozen slow feeders to keep their brain busy and body hydrated 💦

🚨 What to do if your dog has heat stroke:
1. Start cooling them down and contact your Vet Clinic.
Using cool water or Methylated spirits in the armpits and legs to draw heat out of the body.
2. Move them to the car for transport. Keeping windows down to increase airflow and continue the cooling process if able to.

By contacting your clinic in advance, you allow them to prepare for a dog experiencing heat stroke, ensuring they can provide care more quickly and efficiently.

🌟🦢 Celebrity alert! 🦢🌟

We had a very special guest in the hydro pool this week… Ryan Goosling - the adorable gosling!

He took to the water like… well… a duck 😉💦 and absolutely loved snuggling up into everyone’s necks for warm cuddles.
This little superstar stole the whole team’s hearts! 💜

✨ Is Your Pet Extra Itchy Lately? ✨
Scratching, biting, rubbing, or rolling… it might look “cute” at first, but persistent itchiness can be a sign of irritation, agitation or even real discomfort 🐾💜

If your pet is showing any of these signs, it’s important to have them checked. Itchiness can stem from allergies, parasites, skin infections, diet sensitivities, or underlying health issues.
The sooner we identify the cause, the sooner we can help them feel like themselves again 🐶🐱✨

👩‍⚕️ Ask our Vets today how we can help with the itch.
We’re here to bring comfort back to your pet’s skin and ease back into their happy routines.

🌊 Hydro Dog of the Week: Sheeba! 🌊

Say hello to Sheeba, the spirited senior who proves that age is just a number! 💜

Sheeba has been swimming with us for years, and every session she reminds us that she’s still got plenty of spark ⚡

This little pocket rocket zips and zooms around the pool with more enthusiasm than dogs half her age, keeping our Hydrotherapists well and truly on their toes.

And in true Sheeba style, she’s always ready to sneak past the team with a cheeky grin, pretending she’s definitely following the rules… while doing the complete opposite 😄💦

We adore her energy, her confidence, and her unwavering love for the water.
Keep making waves Sheeba, you’re an inspiration to us all 🐾💧

🌾🐶 A gentle reminder to thoroughly check your pets this season! 🌾🐾

Our hydro team made a surprising discovery this week while cleaning out the pool filters, they found an alarming number of grass seeds that had come from the coats of swimming dogs.

Grass seeds can easily hide in fur and cause serious issues if they make their way into ears, paws, or skin. With the warmer weather and more outdoor adventures, it’s more important than ever to give your pets a good check over after play, walks, or swims.

✔️ Check paws, between toes
✔️ Look around ears and underarms
✔️ Run your hands through their coat for any sneaky seeds

If you’re ever unsure or notice redness, swelling, or persistent licking, we’re here to help at Noah’s Crossing Vet 💜

Franklin's Toe Trouble 🐾

Franklin enjoyed a little TLC with our team before being gently sedated so we could investigate his very sore toe.

A calm environment, soft hands, and lots of reassurance go a long way and Franklin soaked it all up like the sweet boy he is 💜
