๐ฑ Monday: VIPets: Meet Silver! ๐
Silver is a senior gentleman who came to us for his routine annual blood tests โ something we recommend for senior cats to help detect health issues early.
His bloodwork revealed that he had hyperthyroidism, a common condition in older cats. Detecting it early is important, as untreated hyperthyroidism can contribute to complications including kidney damage and heart disease.
Silver was treated with radioactive iodine (I-131), a highly effective treatment for feline hyperthyroidism, and he responded wonderfully! โจ
At his follow-up, Dr Emily was delighted with his progress โ and even better, Silver had gained an impressive 1kg since his treatment! ๐ฅฐ
There was just one little piece of feedback from Dr Emilyโฆ Silver may have been enjoying his treats a little too much and was told it was time to cut back! ๐๐พ
Weโre so pleased to see Silver feeling better and thriving again. ๐
Does your cat have hyperthyroidism, or are you noticing changes in their weight, appetite or behaviour? Speak to one of our vets or give us a call to find out more about diagnosis and treatment options.
And remember, regular health checks and blood tests become increasingly important as our cats get older. ๐พ
