Yesterday wasn’t all just about our Silkies either.

We went in with low expectations hoping to just not embarrass ourselves and ended up with Reserve Champion Standard Heavy Soft Feather for our beautiful Black Orpington Pullet.

We got her father from Wyuna Poultry and her mother from Peter Cluff and they have definitely bred us some beautiful girls to build our foundation from.

The 9 year old Mini Board Member is currently elbow deep in water learning how to wash chickens.

The bathroom may look a little worse for wear after this but the chickens should be sparkling 😂

School holidays are just about over for us, and honestly... I'm feeling a bit like this chicken during her photo shoot today. 🤣

We love the end of the July school holidays for two very good reasons:

🐣 1. We can start fertility testing some of our early layers. It's always exciting to see who's ready to kick off the breeding season!

🎒 2. The Mini Board Members are heading back to school and kinder, which means a few less "board meetings" around here.

They've been particularly bossy these holidays...
"Put that hen with that rooster."
"Change that pen."
"We need to buy more chickens!"

They are definitely the bosses around here. 🤪

What’s another project……

Reluctant Chicken Grandpa decided he wanted his own chickens. Guess whose quarantine coop they are occupying atm?
