Meet Dr Connor 👨‍⚕️

“Hi, I’m Dr Connor. I studied my Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree at James Cook University in Townsville. Originally from Yorkshire, England, I moved to Australia with my family when I was 11 years old. Growing up with two younger brothers and a home full of animals, now including two cats and three dogs, I’ve always been surrounded by pets, and caring for them quickly became a passion.
I’m proud to be part of the dedicated team here at Vetlove, where I enjoy supporting pet owners through every stage of their animal’s life. What I value most about being a veterinarian is having the ability to help people when they need it most, even if it’s simply offering reassurance during a stressful or emotional time.
At home, I have the pleasure of sharing my life with a very enthusiastic crew of pets. The dogs get extremely excited for their walks , Takeo (Pomeranian) gets so happy that he spins in fast circles the moment he sees the lead!
I look forward to meeting you and helping provide the best possible care for your pets”.

Occasionally a baby bird is found on the ground, but not all of them need rescuing!
Before stepping in, take a moment to assess the situation:
🐣Is it a nestling or a fledgling?
Nestlings are very young, with few or no feathers. If you find one, it likely needs help. If you can safely locate the nest, gently place it back inside.
Fledglings are older, with feathers, and may be hopping around on the ground. This is normal! Their parents are usually nearby keeping watch and feeding them.
🐣Observe before acting
If the bird is not injured, give it some space and watch from a distance. Well-meaning humans can sometimes do more harm than good.
🐣Keep pets and people away
Dogs, cats, and curious humans can stress or injure young birds. Give them a quiet, safe space.
🐣If the bird is injured or in danger
Place it in a ventilated box lined with a soft cloth and keep it warm, dark, and quiet. Avoid feeding or giving water.
🐣Call for expert help
Reach out to a local wildlife rescue organisation or your nearest vet for guidance. Native birds require specialised care.
🐣 When in doubt, call us! Our team is always here to help you make the best decision for local wildlife.
Together, we can give these little ones the best chance to thrive!

This X-ray tells a story we see more often than you might think. It shows a swallowed fish hook lodged inside a curious pet’s digestive tract.
Hooks, lines, and bait can be incredibly tempting to dogs and cats, especially around waterways like those here on the Gold Coast.

Why this is serious?
Fish hooks can cause internal injuries, blockages, and even life-threatening infections if not treated quickly. In many cases, surgery is required to safely remove them.

Common signs of trouble include:
⚠️ Vomiting or retching
⚠️ Drooling or pawing at the mouth
⚠️ Loss of appetite
⚠️ Lethargy or abdominal pain

Never try to pull a fish hook out yourself, this can cause significant damage.

If you suspect your pet has swallowed a hook or fishing line, seek veterinary care immediately. Early intervention can make all the difference.
