South West Avian Foster and Rescue Services

South West Avian Foster and Rescue Services We are a Foster and Rescue Service for found tame pet birds - we also help re-home birds for owners WHO ARE WE? WHAT DO WE DO?

South West Avian Foster and Rescue is based in Haarden, NSW Australia. We are a rescue and foster service for found tame pet birds- both native and none native. We are also part of the Helping Wings NFP which assists bird owners with emergency vet bills. We assist in rehoming for owners who are no longer able to care for their birds, we also rescue neglected and unwanted birds for re-homing as wel

l try and reunite lost birds with their owners. We make every effort to reunite birds and their owners, often holding onto birds for a year on average before we begin the adoption process. Some birds remain in permanent care with us for various reasons. We check all incoming birds for micro chips and also check all parrotalert lost posts for matches and put them on as found too. We also post on gumtree and check there for lost posts, as well as all the pages, especially those local to where the birds were found

REUNITING BIRD AND OWNERS

One of the best parts of the rescue is our ability to reunite birds with their owners! Depending on the breed of birds we will hold onto them for 9 months to a year (sometimes even longer) as it is harder to track down bird owners and we want to exhaust all possibilities before we put birds up for adoption. If you think we may have your bird, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Please be aware that some people do make attempts to claim birds that are not theirs, so the more detail you can provide about your birds markings, behaviours and personality the better. We do not charge a fee for reuniting birds and their humans; however a donation would be appreciated. FOSTERING

Our Foster Carers are wonderful people who help us care for the birds and assist us in re-homing. Fostering is an unpaid position, with the cost of vet bills covered by us. If you wish to foster a bird please get in touch. Please note that a police check will be required and the process to become a foster carer is quite stringent. A number of our birds have issues due to past neglect and we do not wish to traumatize them again. Should you be successful, you will be matched with a bird that is within your capabilities. ADOPTING

First of all, thank-you for considering adopting a bird! Our adoption process is also quite stringent as we want to see our birds go to a home where they can live out the rest of their lives in happiness. Birds are quite high maintenance, and we will support you while you learn how to care for not only birds in general, but also the specific bird you wish to adopt. All birds are vet checked at our expense. It is a condition of adoption that all birds are micro chipped at your expense. If you like to be considered for adoption, please request an adoption form. If your adoption application is approved, an Adoption Coordinator will undertake a home visit to ensure that your home is properly set up for a rescue bird. If it is not, we will make recommendations on what you will require and work with you to ensure your home is ready for your new family member. Please note that there is an adoption fee when you adopt a bird from us, this fee goes directly towards caring for the other birds that are still in care. HELPING WINGS

Helping wings is a charity organisation that assists bird owners with emergency vet bills. If you require assistance please head to http://www.helpingwings.org.au/ and complete a form which we will review, and then decide if we can help you. You can also donate to our cause through the website as well. Please note that we are only a small organisation with limited funds and support, and while we would love to help every bird, we can only assist in true emergency situations

Boogie
8-9 years old
Currently living in Chester Hill 2162

Boogie is very affectionate and loves human interaction especially with females! He's a real chatterbox and his vocabulary includes "good morning", "you wanna say goodnight" when he's ready to sleep but sometimes he'll say it in order to trick you into picking him up and won't actually let go and step down into his cage once you do.. he mimics and laughs along with people, he says "yummy" when you give him food or a treat, and even says the names of his favourite foods but in Turkish so for instance he'll say "ceviz" (c is pronounced like J) which means walnut and he says "biber" which means chilli pepper.. he also says "oh s**t" 😂 "whats wrong" and "come on" and yells out "BOOGIE".. he whistles a lot and if you put on the right song he'll try his best to sing along!
He comes from a very loving family and I've never been more reluctant about anything, it breaks my heart to even think about rehoming him but it's what's best for him.. we just don't have the time to give him the attention he needs and maintain a suitable routine which I believe is the main reason he's been plucking a lot more lately.. my local vet who is a bird specialist says he just needs the right relationship along with the right environment and he will blossom

I'm more than happy to hand over his more than big enough stainless steel cage because it'll most likely make adjusting to his new home a little easier though I know some bird lovers might have an aviary and won't need his cage
