Dental disease is not just something experienced by senior pets with younger pets showing signs.

If your pet shows signs of bad breath, discoloured teeth or excessive drooling they may be in the early stages of dental disease.

So next time you're booking your dental appointment, remember to also book your furry friend in to get theirs checked as well.

Until 30 September, get $50 off a stage 1 dental scale & polish at your local Greencross Vets clinic. T&Cs apply.

Four dogs have died from canine leptospirosis, with two confirmed in the Southern Highlands and Shoalhaven.

The serious bacterial disease is spread by rats and contaminated water and can cause liver and kidney failure.

Some of the symptoms include vomiting or diarrhea and lethargy.

Dog owners in the Southern Highlands and South coast are being urged to have their pets vaccinated and to avoid letting them drink or swim in stagnant water.

Even our pets get sick sometimes too... Nurse Brittany's cat Darth Maul decided that the licky treat mat was so delicious that he wanted to eat the treats and the mat! We were lucky to get Dr Woodruff in to do a scope and remove this chunk of rubber from his stomach. Silly kitty!

A few weeks ago the team had an emergency case brought in. Little Ash (known by staff as burrito) was found by Gawler council workers stuck in a drain. He was taken by the workers to a nearby house and they asked the home owner to rush him to a vet.
Dr Kristy and the team were presented with a very malnourished kitten that was so cold he didn't register a temperature, a heart rate of 60bpm and a respiration rate of 6 breaths per minute... It was clear the little guy was close to leaving this world.
But the team were not prepared to give up too fast, they sprung into action treating him, giving Ash sub-cut fluids and actively warming him to try and give him a fighting chance at life.
Their efforts were not for nothing and last week we had the absolute joy of seeing little Ash back in the clinic looking happy and healthier. The lovely couple that brought him in decided to adopt him and he has gained a good chunk of weight and was ready for his first vaccinations. ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฅฐ
