๐Ÿ† We were proud to attend the Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club Presentation Night in April, where owners Rob and Michelle presented the inaugural Karingal Vet Hospital โ€œValues and Characterโ€ Awards to worthy recipients Shelby Crothers and Nic Taranto.

โœจ These awards recognise players whose attitude and actions consistently lift those around them, celebrating values that closely align with our own at Karingal Vet Hospital - respect, cooperation, dedication, honesty and integrity, health and wellbeing, and fun.

As part of the award, a donation of $250 was made in each recipientโ€™s name to MSFIN (Mums Supporting Families in Need Inc ), a local charity we proudly support each year. MSFIN provides practical support and assistance to local families experiencing hardship, helping ensure no family goes without their basic daily needs being met. We are passionate about supporting MSFIN because of the genuine difference they make within our local community, providing care, dignity, and practical help to families when they need it most.

๐Ÿ’™ Community involvement is incredibly important to us at Karingal Vet Hospital, and we are proud to support organisations and initiatives that make a genuine difference to local families and young people. ๐Ÿพ When handsome Rottweiler Jordan came to see us, he had a fish hook firmly stuck in his paw. Unfortunately, fish hooks are designed to go in easily, but thanks to their barbs, they definitely don't like coming back out!

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ That meant Jordan was taken straight through to surgery with Dr Jaqui and nurse Tamika looking after him. They were safely able to remove the hook and prevent further damage to his paw. We're happy to report that this big, brave boy handled the whole experience like a champion and is no longer in a fishy predicament!
โš ๏ธ๐Ÿ–๏ธ A friendly reminder to be cautious down at the beach: discarded fishing gear can be a real catch for curious pets - but not the kind they want!

After playing outside, Heidi the Miniature Schnauzer suddenly became lethargic and started vomiting, alarming her family. Because Heidi had previously experienced a reaction to an insect bite, Dr Michael quickly recognised the signs of a likely anaphylactic reaction - a life-threatening allergic emergency.

๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿ’‰ With the help of nurse Ieshia, Heidi was rapidly stabilised and closely monitored. As her condition progressed, she required a plasma transfusion to support her recovery and circulation. Thankfully, Heidi responded beautifully to treatment and was soon back to her happy, playful self.

๐Ÿ Just like people, dogs can develop worsening allergies to bee stings and insect bites over time. Repeated exposure may trigger increasingly severe reactions, including life-threatening anaphylaxis.

Signs of anaphylaxis can include:
โš ๏ธ Vomiting or diarrhoea
โš ๏ธ Sudden lethargy or collapse
โš ๏ธ Facial swelling
โš ๏ธ Difficulty breathing

๐Ÿš‘ If your pet shows signs of a severe allergic reaction, seek veterinary attention immediately.

๐ŸŽพ Weโ€™re so happy to see Heidi safely back home with her family - and we strongly recommend she sticks to chasing tennis ballsโ€ฆ because bees are definitely not on the approved toy list!

๐Ÿ’‰ Otie, belonging to our wonderful team member Jemma, was diagnosed with a**l sac adenocarcinoma earlier this year. Since then, he has been through an incredible journey - including surgery to remove both a**l glands performed by Dr Jaqui, followed by 6 rounds of chemotherapy over the past 4 months.

๐Ÿฅ Otie is a much-loved part of our clinic family, so being able to support him through his treatment journey has meant so much to all of us. We are incredibly proud of how well he handled everything, all while keeping his cheeky personality and happy spirit throughout ๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿถ Many people are surprised to learn that chemotherapy in dogs is often very different to chemotherapy in people, with most dogs tolerating treatment extremely well and not experiencing the severe side effects we commonly associate with human chemotherapy.

๐ŸŽ€๐Ÿฅณ To mark the occasion, Otie celebrated in style wearing his party hat and bow tie while soaking up all the cuddles, treats, and attention from the team!
