Had an awesome day with my Dream Team Thursday Pack, since the weather has warmed up the dogs were very chill and laid back today!

Crate training at Calm K9 Clinic, sneak peak to our crate routine, sometimes people are worried about their dogs “having” to be crated when they come to stay with us. All dogs get crate trained when they come to us due to the numbers of dogs that we manage daily. Crates offer structure and a calm place for the dogs to relax and take some time for themselves away from the pack. Dogs are never crated for prolonged periods of time, crates are used to teach down time and to ensure all dogs get enough of it. Dogs need about 18 hours of sleep per day, and often dogs, when coming to a new environment just can’t settle as everything is too exciting. All dogs end up loving these crates, they are never used as a punishment but rather as a place of safety and relaxation. Dogs also get fed their meals, bones and treats in their crates. Wonderful Wednesday Pack had a great day! We’ve been missing a few friends for the past couple of weeks, so doggies have had more individual attention which has been fun 🥰.

Little bit of fun with my personal pack, we like to say different words at dinner time to test how well they are listening to the correct word which is “break”. This helps with impulse control as well as the dog listening carefully for the right cue. This same exercise can be taken to so many different places, such as getting out of the car, door way, just practicing a stay when out and about, when doing gaffer training etc.

Our Wonderful Wednesday, since we were missing a few this week I took a chance to do more training and work on calmness and impulse control as well as recalls 🥰. Also had fun putting young high drive exuberant dogs with my mature older dogs to learn that calmness can exist with high drive levels.
