🛑 graphic image warning 🛑

A wrong release can be a death sentence. Well meaning people might rescue a territorial bird from one territory and just release it from their own home. This photo is an example of what happens.

Kookaburras are not friendly neighbours. They are fiercely territorial, defending their patch year-round with savage force. A stranger in their skies is not greeted — it’s hunted. Attacked at the head and eyes. Driven into the ground. Killed.

Release an adult kookaburra outside its home range, and you might as well drop it straight into enemy territory. It won’t last the day.

That’s why wildlife carers fight to return them exactly where they came from —. Because in the world of kookaburras, “wrong place” means no tomorrow.

This is not limited to kookaburras but extends to all territorial birds and wildlife in general. Please always record the correct address of any animal you rescue.

Both birds are in recovery with specialist wildlife carers.
