🌧️🐾 After all the rain here in Bundaberg, mushrooms are popping up everywhere — but while they might look cute or harmless, one species in particular is deadly.
It's called the Death Cap mushroom — and it’s already caused heart breaking consequences right here in our community. 🍄☠️
👉 This isn't just a warning — we have seen, felt, and treated the heart breaking effects of this deadly fungi right here, in house, this week. This is a very real threat to our beloved pets, and we want to prevent this from happening to anyone else in our community. 💔
🔍 What is the Death Cap Mushroom?
Scientific name: Amanita phalloides
Features: Greenish or yellow-green smooth cap
White gills & stalk with skirt-like ring
Bulbous base with a “sac” (volva) — often hidden underground
Grows near trees like oak, pine, and chestnut — especially after rain
Even a tiny amount — less than a fingernail — can be fatal to both humans and animals.
🐶🐱 Why This Is So Dangerous for Pets:
❗️ Dogs especially are curious and might sniff or nibble on mushrooms.
❗️ Early symptoms can be delayed for up to 24 hours, which gives a false sense of security.
❗️ By the time vomiting, drooling, or lethargy appear, the liver is already under severe attack.
❗️ Without fast treatment, death from liver or kidney failure is heartbreakingly common.
🚨 What You Need to Do RIGHT NOW:
✅ Check your yard daily and remove any mushrooms (gloves recommended)
✅ Keep your pets leashed and away from mushrooms on walks
✅ If you even suspect your pet has eaten a mushroom — go to the vet immediately
⏱️ Every minute counts. There is no home remedy — only fast, professional treatment can save their life
This isn’t just a rare risk — it’s a very real, very local threat. Please SHARE this post to help raise awareness and protect our precious fur babies. 🐾❤️
