💔 AN ORDINARY SCHOOL LUNCH ENDED IN A LOSS ADRIAN’S FAMILY COULD NEVER HAVE IMAGINED.

Eight-year-old Adrian Sue Thompson began choking during lunch on April 15. Despite emergency treatment, she died early the next morning.

Reports describing surveillance footage and witness accounts have since raised questions about how quickly her distress was recognized. An employee reportedly believed she was about to vomit and directed her toward a trash can.

Nearly two minutes reportedly passed before Adrian reached the nurse’s office. Accounts differ on whether an adult stayed with her throughout that journey.

The nurse attempted the Heimlich maneuver, used a LifeVac device, and performed CPR before emergency responders continued her care. Reports also questioned adult-sized masks on the devices examined, but no finding established that mask size caused her death.

Her death was classified as accidental, and investigators reportedly found no criminal offense. Questions about emergency recognition, supervision, and preparedness remain.

💔 PRAYERS UP as Texans gather along highways and overpasses to honor a fallen deputy making his final journey home—leaving behind a wife and three children, including a newborn.

Last week, many of you joined me in remembering Van Zandt County Deputy Adam Ahmed Al-Sherifi, who was killed in an ambush while helping serve felony warrants near Canton.

He was just 31 years old.

The gunman reportedly fired more than 800 rounds at law enforcement during the incident that took Adam’s life.

Behind his badge was a devoted husband and father whose family had recently welcomed a new baby. His wife, Kyleigh, remembered him as brave, strong, and kind—a man who laughed wholeheartedly and loved deeply.

Now, she faces the heartbreaking reality of raising their three young children without him.

His body is being escorted from the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office to Eubank Funeral Home in Canton. The procession will follow I-35, Woodall Rodgers Freeway, I-45, Highway 175, and I-20.

The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office is inviting Texans, firefighters, and fellow officers to gather along the route and on overpasses to pay their respects.

His funeral is Wednesday.

NINE DAYS. THAT WAS ALL THAT SEPARATED A TODDLER’S FIRST SYMPTOMS FROM A GOODBYE HIS FAMILY NEVER EXPECTED.

Nineteen-month-old Will Hall began having loose stools on October 13. Days later, diarrhea and vomiting led his parents, Whitney and Seth, to seek emergency care.

According to the family’s account, doctors diagnosed Will with hemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious complication associated with certain E. coli infections. His kidneys failed, and he needed dialysis.

His parents prayed for recovery, holding onto the hope that their youngest boy would come home. Just nine days after his first symptoms, Will died.

Now, Whitney and Seth are mourning their baby while helping his brothers, nine-year-old Oliver and four-year-old Noah, face life without him.

SHE REFUSED TO FIGHT AND TRIED TO WALK AWAY. SIX DAYS LATER, HER FAMILY LOST HER.

Sixteen-year-old Dannady Greene was waiting for her school bus when two teenagers allegedly confronted her. Her family said she had experienced problems with another girl, but that morning, Dannady did not want to fight.

According to a witness account cited by investigators, one suspect threatened to shoot her if she refused. Dannady tried to run. Police allege several shots followed, leaving her critically injured.

She died in the hospital six days later.

💔 SHE CALLED HER “MY PRINCESS.” NOW SHE’S TRYING TO BRING HER HOME.

Sixteen-year-old Kimberly Mareily López Castillo died on October 22, two days after a serious vehicle crash. Her family is now grieving while seeking help to return her remains to her homeland.

The collision happened shortly after 1 a.m. on October 20. According to reports, the vehicle crossed into the opposite lane, struck a curb twice, and crashed into a light pole. Four people were hospitalized.

Authorities have not publicly established why the vehicle left its lane. The information provided does not identify the driver or report any criminal charges.

‼️ Just two weeks after becoming a daddy, a lineman was electrocuted on the job, went into cardiac arrest and suffered a devastating brain injury.
More than a year later, his little boy is growing up while his wife is still fighting for the chance to have her husband back.
Patrick Winterstein was working as a lineman on August 5th, 2025, when the accident left him with severe burns and an anoxic brain injury caused by a lack of oxygen to his brain.
For more than a year, I’ve been sharing the stories of linemen who never came home and others who survived but lost limbs or suffered life-changing injuries.
Their families have helped me understand the extraordinary risks these men and women take doing a job so many of us take for granted.
And Patrick’s family is living with those consequences every day.
His wife, Alanie, had just given birth to their son, Stetson.
Instead of spending their first year together celebrating all the joys of becoming parents, this young family has endured hospitalizations, medical setbacks and a recovery that has been painfully slow.
In a recent update, Patrick’s family shared something especially difficult.
“Cognitively, there have not been the gains we had hoped for.”
They admit they’ve spent much of the past year grieving the life they imagined, while trying to protect Patrick’s dignity and hold on to hope.
His family is exploring additional rehabilitation and treatments, many of which insurance won’t cover.
And through it all, they’re holding on to one dream: that Patrick can someday reclaim the roles he loves most, being a husband and a father to little Stetson.
I can’t imagine watching your baby grow through his first year while wondering what the future holds for the man you planned to raise him with.

💔 A SOCIAL WORKER SAW HE WAS “VERY SKINNY.” SIX DAYS LATER, HE WAS DEAD.

Fifteen-year-old Karreon Adams-Franks depended on adults to protect him. He was autistic, nonverbal, and legally blind.

During a visit shortly before his death, a social worker documented “no present danger.”

When Karreon died in November 2020, he weighed just 61 pounds—down from 115 pounds a year earlier. A medical examiner determined that starvation and neglect caused his death.

His adoptive parents, Felicia Adams and Jesse Franks, were convicted of domestic violence homicide.

Now, Washington state and the Evergreen School District have agreed to a $49.3 million settlement over alleged failures to protect him.

According to attorneys for his estate, warning signs had surfaced for years. The lawsuit alleged that when the boys told school staff they were not being fed, those reports were passed back to their parents, exposing them to further abuse.

The settlement cannot return Karreon’s life or erase what his brothers endured.

💔 NEARLY THREE MONTHS OF PRAYERS—THEN A GOODBYE NO PARENT COULD IMAGINE.

One-year-old Elisabeth Estrella Alvarado’s family is sharing their heartbreak to raise awareness of a danger they never knew existed.

On July 17, Elisabeth was sleeping beside her six-year-old sister when her mother, Suzanna, found her unconscious with her sister’s hair tangled around her, according to the family’s account.

Her aunt Breydis says Suzanna screamed for help, neighbors called 911, and Elisabeth’s father, Jose, immediately began CPR. The family says doctors later determined that oxygen deprivation had caused severe brain damage.

For nearly three months, they held onto hope while Elisabeth remained in intensive care. On October 13, their little girl passed away.

Breydis remembers a loving child who adored Ms. Rachel, brought joy into every room, and gave the tightest hugs. Now her parents and four siblings must face life without those embraces while also struggling with funeral expenses.
