As the seasons change, we’ve unfortunately seen an increase in colic cases recently.

Dr Dorette Crouse’s four-part article series on colic in horses remains an incredibly valuable resource for horse owners, covering signs to look out for, possible causes, and when to seek urgent veterinary attention.

We thought it was the right time to revisit and reshare this important read with our clients and followers.

AHS (African Horse Sickness) is one of the most serious diseases affecting equines in South Africa - and awareness, prevention, and early action remain incredibly important during high-risk seasons.

From vaccinations and insect control to simple stable management practices, small preventative measures can make a significant difference in protecting the horses we love.

If your horse shows any concerning symptoms, contact your vet immediately.

They’re the friendly faces, the steady hands, and the hearts behind everything we do at NRAC…meet some of our incredible team:

✨ Shellea Ripley
38 years of dedication and experience at NRAC - Shellea truly has done it all, and today she keeps our accounts running seamlessly behind the scenes. Her passion lies with animals, especially horses, and spends her spare time competing in dressage, something she absolutely loves.

✨ Therenė Ross
One of the driving forces behind NRAC from day one, Therenė helped bring the clinic to life alongside Dr Mike Ross. As our Practice Manager and very deserving “Boss Lady”, she keeps everything - and everyone - on track. Outside of work, her heart is fullest when she’s scrapbooking or making memories with her children and grandchildren.

✨ Janine Cooper
From friendly face at reception to indispensable Personal Assistant to Dr Mike Ross & the other vets, Janine has grown with NRAC over the past 6 years. She’s the organisational powerhouse behind the scenes - managing schedules, reports, and making sure everything runs like clockwork. In her downtime, you’ll find her relaxing with a good book.

It’s this kind of dedication, warmth, and passion that makes our team so special ✨

Let’s get to know the incredible team behind NRAC – the hands, hearts, and smiles that care for your horses every day 🫶🏻

✨MORRIS✨

Morris has been part of the NRAC family for 17 years, and his special way with horses makes him an invaluable groom. When he’s not caring for our equine friends, he loves spending weekends with his little boy. A true DIY enthusiast, Morris is always learning new ways to fix and create things around the house.

✨MILDRED (aka Millie)✨

Millie has been keeping NRAC sparkling for an incredible 38 years! She’s the heart behind our clinic’s cleanliness and organization. Off-duty, Millie enjoys shopping, getting her hair done, and spending time with her three grown children. Her dedication and warmth make everyone feel right at home.

✨RICHARD✨

Richard, our Head Groom and Theater Assistant, has dedicated 30 years to NRAC. Always eager to learn new skills – like taking X-rays – Richard brings both expertise and a calm presence to the team. Originally from the Eastern Cape, he enjoys relaxing weekends visiting friends and cherishing time with his four grown children.

Meet some of the incredible faces behind NRAC 💚

Monica is the friendly voice and smile that greets you at reception. She’s been part of the NRAC family for 15 years and is a proud mom of three. When she’s not at work, you’ll usually find her getting lost in a good book 📚

Then there’s Linda, who keeps everything running smoothly in Debtors Accounts. Linda has been with NRAC for 10 years and is a mom to two grown daughters and a very proud granny to two beautiful granddaughters 💕 In her spare time, she loves baking sweet treats and sewing up something special 🧁

It’s people like Monica and Linda who make NRAC what it is - dedicated, caring, and full of heart.
