uMngeni SPCA We pride ourselves on being a very proactive & highly motivated branch of the SPCA.

The uMngeni SPCA has been tackling the problems of neglect, abuse and cruelty to animals in the greater Howick Districts since its formation in 1968. Our area of jurisdiction falls within the uMngeni Municipal boundries (with the exception of Otto's Bluff which comes under the Pietermaritzburg SPCA and Nottingham Road which falls under Mooi River SPCA. Our area therefore includes Howick, Hilton, Cedara, Mpophomeni, Haza, Impendle, Dargle, Lidgetton, Balgowan, Karkloof and everything in between.

Free Rabies vaccinations on Sunday
Rabies vaccinations for cats and dogs will be available on Sunday 27th April at Patterson Park from 10h30 to 13h30.

Bring your pet's inoculation card. Blank cards will be on hand for first-timers

Kennel Stay Checklist 🐾💙
💙Make sure your pet is healthy: Proof of up-to-date vaccinations is required, so please bring your pet's medical records to the boarding kennels.
💙Bring familiar items: Pack your pet's favourite toys and bedding to help them feel comfortable and at ease. The known smell of items they love can help your pet to relax and feel safe.
💙Stick to their regular diet: uMngeni SPCA feeds from a range of donated sources so it is recommended to bring your pet’s food. This avoids a sudden change to your pet's diet and possible upset stomach.
💙Medication: Bring any medication and dosage instructions with your pet.
💙Use a comfortable carrier: Make sure your pet's carrier is familiar, secure and comfortable.
💙Be calm: Pets are sensitive to their owner's emotions, so try to stay calm, confident and relaxed during the drop-off.
💙Practice makes perfect: Consider a couple of days trial run to ensure your pet will cope and you will have peace of mind.

Dogs per day are; Small R70, Medium R90, Large R100 & Extra Large R110 🐕

227 Pets Vaccinated Against Rabies in uMngeni SPCA Drive 🐾💙

By yesterday, uMngeni SPCA had successfully vaccinated 227 pets across the KZN Midlands area. Street sweeps in Cedara resulted in 57 dogs and 10 cats receiving vaccinations, while in Howick West, 119 dogs and 1 cat were vaccinated. Additionally, 30 dogs and 10 cats visited the Campbell Road Clinic for their free rabies vaccines.

uMngeni SPCA strongly urges the broader community to continue emphasising the importance of annual rabies vaccinations for all warm-blooded pets. The SPCA is grateful for the support of numerous official entities in the community who are supplementing this drive. With increased accessibility to this free service, we hope all pet owners will seize the opportunity to protect their animals and themselves from this deadly disease.

Ongoing rabies education remains a key priority for all involved.

To minimise a gathering of many pets, please keep your pets in your vehicle until their turn is up.

Rabies vaccinations are also available at the Kennels, 15 Campbell Road, Howick on weekdays from 8am to 4pm.
