Update: FOUND 🙏🏻

IT IS NOT A GOOD FRIDAY FOR DONNA
And we are so worried 😥
𝑨 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒔𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆

Donna, shy little dog, went missing on Monday just as her mom had to leave for a business trip.
Imagine boarding a plane and hearing your dog was missing.

Days have now passed, and despite tireless searching by her family, friends, and so many kind strangers, we still haven’t found her.

Donna is a small dog, roughly the size of a Jack Russell, but she’s an unusual breed. This is where we come in - our breed is big and the best in the world I truly believe our supporters will rally behind Donn.

She’s naturally shy and skittish, which makes her even more vulnerable out there on her own. Her family is completely heartbroken — especially the young children, who have lost their beloved family member and best friend. The empty space she’s left in their home is felt every single day.

As a breed organisation, we’ve seen how quickly public interest in lost dogs can fade, and we’re desperately worried that Donna’s chances are slipping away with each passing day.

This Good Friday, we’re asking every person in Cape Town to please do one simple act of kindness for Donna and her family:

• Share her picture
• Post her on your Instagram/Facebook story
• Add her to your Western Cape WhatsApp groups
Every share, every view, every pair of eyes that sees her brings us one step closer to bringing her home.

To the little children who are missing their dog so badly — your mom, dad, and all of us are praying for Donna. We won’t give up.

Please, Cape Town, find it in your hearts to make a real effort today.

One share from you could be the one that reaches the person who has seen her, or is caring for her right now.

Keeping Donna, a microchipped dog who is not a stray is a criminal offense. You will soon notice her health concerns as she is off her special diet.

Please do the right thing 🙏🏻

Donna, if you’re out there… we’re still looking for you, sweet girl. Come home. 🙏🏻

WHAT TO DO (AND NOT TO DO) WHEN YOUR CAT GOES MISSING 🐾

Losing a cat is terrifying, but understanding their behaviour can make ALL the difference in bringing them home safely.

Most people search the wrong way… here’s what actually works 👇

✅ WHAT TO DO

🔍 Search CLOSE to home
🌙 Search at NIGHT with a torch
🕵️‍♀️ Do a thorough, physical search
Check EVERY hiding spot:
• Under houses, decks & cars
• Inside garages & sheds
• Bushes, drains, roofs
• Even tiny gaps
🚪Check your home again (and again!)
🤝 Speak to neighbours directly
Don’t just leave flyers – ask permission to search their properties yourself.

Cats often hide silently for days (even 1–2 weeks) before moving.

❌ WHAT NOT TO DO

📣 Don’t rely on calling their name
A scared cat will NOT respond – even to you. Silence is their survival instinct.
📍 Don’t assume they’ve gone far
🏢 Don’t rely on shelters to find them
Only a very small percentage of lost cats end up there.
⏱️ Don’t give up too soon

💡 REMEMBER:
Your cat isn’t “lost” in the way we think… they are usually hiding, scared, and waiting for the right moment.

🐾 Stay hopeful. Stay consistent. Don’t stop searching.

We are currently assisting in the search for a missing cat who was lost at the Cape Town International airport.

We are actively trying to gain access on a daily basis to relevant areas in and around the airport to assist in locating him, where there have been possibly sightings however this has proven to be quite challenging.

We are reaching out to ask whether anyone may have contacts at the airport who could assist us in obtaining the necessary access or facilitate a more coordinated search.

Any assistance, guidance, or connections would be greatly appreciated in helping us locate this precious boy and bring him home safely.

🐾 INDOOR-ONLY CAT vs OUTDOOR-ACCESS CAT — Why This Matters When a Cat Goes Missing 🐾

🏠 Indoor-Only Cats

Indoor-only cats live their entire lives inside the home. When they accidentally slip outside, they suddenly find themselves in a completely unfamiliar and frightening environment.

According to the Missing Animal Response Network, these cats become what is known as “displaced.”

Their survival instinct kicks in and they usually:
• Hide immediately
• Stay very close to where they escaped
• Remain silent even when owners call them

They often squeeze into the smallest, darkest hiding spots such as:

* Under decks
* Inside garages
* In thick bushes
* Under sheds
* Crawl spaces
* Even inside walls or roof cavities

🌳 Outdoor-Access Cats

Cats that are allowed outdoors are already familiar with their territory and typically know how to navigate their neighbourhood and return home.

So when one of these cats disappears, it usually means something interrupted their normal routine.

Common reasons include:
• Being accidentally trapped in a garage or shed
• Injury preventing them from returning
• Being chased into unfamiliar territory
• Getting into a vehicle or delivery van
• Being transported to another area

🐾 Why This Information Matters

When a cat goes missing, the search strategy should match the cat’s behaviour.

Cats rarely “run away.”
Most are either hiding nearby or prevented from coming home.

Understanding their behaviour is often the key to bringing them back safely. ❤️🐾

Indoor Cats vs Outdoor Cats 🐈‍⬛

Why This Matters When Your Cat Goes Missing?? Here’s why:

One of the most important questions we ask when helping to locate a missing cat is:

“Is your cat an indoor cat or an outdoor cat?”

This may seem like a small detail, but it actually tells us a lot about how far a cat may travel, as well as how their anxiety levels may be in that moment and how confident they may be in moving.

What is an Indoor Cat? 🐈

An indoor cat is a cat that lives completely inside the home and does not roam freely outdoors.

These cats may still experience the outside world in controlled ways, such as:

🐾Walking on a harness and lead
🐾Spending time in a secure catio (enclosed cat patio)

❣️However, they do not have free access to roam outside on their own.

Because indoor cats are unfamiliar with the outdoors, when they accidentally escape they usually become very frightened and disoriented. Instead of travelling far, they often:

🐾Hide very close to home
🐾Crawl under decks, cars, bushes, or buildings
🐾Stay silent and still for long periods
🐾Come out mostly late at night when it is quiet

This is why many indoor cats are found within a very small radius of their home, sometimes just a few houses away, but the chances of them hitchhiking a ride is much higher, as car engines seem very appealing to them and their protection.

What is an Outdoor Cat?🐈

An outdoor cat is a cat that has regular access to roam freely outside.

These cats are comfortable navigating their environment and usually have established routes and territories. Many outdoor cats:

🐾Visit neighbouring yards
🐾Patrol certain areas daily
🐾Hunt and explore further from home
🐾Relax and sun tan in the garden
🐾Has a cat proofed garden

When an outdoor cat goes missing, the situation can be different. They may:

🐾Travel much further distances
🐾Become temporarily trapped in garages, sheds, or buildings
🐾Get locked in vehicles or transported accidentally
🐾Wander into unfamiliar territory

Because outdoor cats already roam, their search radius can be significantly larger.

Why This Information Matters in Missing Pet Tracking❣️❣️

Understanding whether a cat is indoor or outdoor helps us determine:

🐾How far the cat is likely to be
🐾What behaviour the cat may be showing

❣️❣️❣️BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER —— Every Cat Is Unique, and no situation is the say❣️❣️❣️

While indoor and outdoor patterns help guide a search, every cat is still an individual. Stress, fear, weather, and surrounding activity can all influence their behaviour when missing.

But knowing your cat’s lifestyle gives us a very important starting point when helping bring them home safely.
