Dr. Timothy Warner is back full-time at Foothills Animal Hospital, and we couldn't be more excited for our clients and your pets to benefit from his extensive experience and expertise!

Dr. Warner brings nearly 30 years of veterinary medicine and surgery experience to our team. Over his career, he's developed specialized skills in many areas, including:
Orthopedic surgery: from fracture repair to TPLO cruciate repair and luxating patella correction
Cardiology: including echocardiograms to assess heart disease and cardiomyopathy
Endoscopy: both rigid and flexible, for non-invasive diagnostics
Soft tissue surgery: with efficient, skilled care across a wide range of procedures
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Warner is a devoted animal lover at heart. Raised in Idaho with a Brittany Spaniel, a Labrador Retriever, and two rescue cats, he understands the special bond between pets and their families.

🚨 NEW WORLD SCREWWORM UPDATE FOR PET OWNERS 🚨

Recent cases of New World Screwworm (NWS), a flesh-eating parasite, have been confirmed in Texas and New Mexico, including a case involving a dog. These are the first U.S. cases detected in decades, and animal health officials are urging pet owners to remain vigilant.

🐾 What is New World Screwworm?
Unlike typical maggots that feed on dead tissue, New World Screwworm larvae feed on living tissue. The flies lay eggs in wounds, surgical incisions, or natural body openings, and the larvae burrow into the tissue causing painful, rapidly worsening wounds.

⚠️ Signs to Watch For:
• Non-healing wounds
• Wounds that suddenly become larger
• Foul odor from a wound
• Bloody or draining wounds
• Visible maggots or larvae
• Excessive licking or chewing at a wound
• Decreased appetite or lethargy

🏥 Veterinary Treatment:
Prompt veterinary care is critical. Treatment may include:
• Removal of larvae from the wound
• Thorough wound cleaning and treatment
• Pain management and antibiotics when needed
• FDA-authorized medications such as Credelio® (lotilaner) and NexGard® (afoxolaner), which have been approved for the treatment of New World Screwworm infestations in dogs and cats

Early detection and treatment are key to preventing serious tissue damage and improving outcomes.

✈️ Mexico Travel Update:
As of June 10, 2026, restrictions affecting pet dog travel into Mexico have been lifted. However, travel requirements can change, so pet owners should verify current import requirements before crossing the border with their pets.

🐶🐱 Living in Yuma, many of our clients travel frequently between Arizona and Mexico. We encourage pet owners to routinely check their pets for wounds, keep wounds clean and protected, and seek veterinary attention promptly if a wound appears unusual or contains larvae.

If your pet has a wound that is not healing properly or you notice any unusual larvae, contact your veterinarian immediately.
