⚠️ PARVO ALERT FOR OKLAHOMA DOG OWNERS ⚠️

Recent reports have highlighted an increase in canine parvovirus (Parvo) cases across Oklahoma, and we want to remind everyone how important prevention and early detection can be.

🐾 What is Parvo?
Parvo is a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus that primarily affects puppies and unvaccinated dogs. It attacks the digestive system and immune system, causing severe illness if left untreated.

🚨 Common Signs of Parvo:
• Severe vomiting
• Diarrhea (often bloody)
• Loss of appetite
• Lethargy or extreme tiredness
• Fever
• Weight loss
• Dehydration
• Weakness or depression

If your dog is showing any of these symptoms, contact your veterinarian immediately. Early treatment can make a significant difference.

🦠 How Does It Spread?
Parvo spreads through contact with infected dogs, contaminated f***s, and even contaminated surfaces such as grass, sidewalks, shoes, leashes, food bowls, and clothing. The virus can survive in the environment for months and is extremely difficult to eliminate.

✅ How to Protect Your Dog:
• Keep vaccinations current.
• Avoid high-traffic dog areas if your puppy is not fully vaccinated.
• Clean and disinfect areas where dogs frequent.
• Wash hands after handling unfamiliar dogs.
• Be cautious when introducing puppies to public spaces.

🏫 At K9 University, the health and safety of every dog in our care is our top priority. We require ALL dogs participating in our programs to be current on their required vaccinations. In addition, we maintain strict cleaning and sanitation protocols throughout our facility and closely monitor every dog for signs of illness.

Vaccinations are one of the most effective ways to protect your dog and help prevent the spread of serious diseases like Parvo.
