With Easter around the corner, lilies are everywhere—but did you know they’re extremely toxic to cats? 🌷🐾 Even a small amount of pollen, leaves, or water from the vase can cause kidney failure, which can be fatal if not treated immediately.

To keep your feline friends safe, avoid bringing lilies into your home altogether. Opt for pet-safe flowers like roses, sunflowers, or orchids instead.
If you suspect your cat has come into contact with a lily, contact your vet or an emergency clinic right away. Prevention is the best way to protect your furry family member! 💙

April is Stress Awareness Month, and just like us, our pets can feel stressed too! Knowing the signs and causes can help you keep your furry friends calm and happy.
Signs of stress in pets:
🐶 Dogs: Excessive barking, pacing, panting, drooling, or changes in appetite.
🐱 Cats: Hiding, excessive grooming, loss of appetite, or aggressive behavior.

Common causes of stress:
🏠 Changes in routine or environment (moving, new pets, or visitors).
🎇 Loud noises (thunderstorms, fireworks, or construction).
🐕‍🦺 Separation anxiety or boredom.
🩺 Illness or pain (always rule out medical issues with your vet).
If your pet seems stressed, try creating a safe, quiet space, using calming products (like pheromone diffusers), or increasing playtime and mental stimulation. And if you’re concerned, don’t hesitate to reach out to your vet for advice!
Let’s work together to keep our pets happy, healthy, and stress-free. 💙

April is Pet First Aid Awareness Month, and being prepared can make all the difference in an emergency! 🐾🚑

Every pet parent should have a pet first aid kit stocked with essentials like:
✅ Gauze, bandages, and adhesive tape
✅ Antiseptic wipes and ointment
✅ Tweezers (for splinters or ticks)
✅ Scissors with blunt ends
✅ A digital thermometer (pet-safe!)
✅ Hydrogen peroxide (for inducing vomiting—only if directed by your vet)
✅ Our contact info and the nearest emergency clinic’s number [WE RECOMMEND The Animal Emergency and Referral Center in Oakdale (651) 501-3766 or St. Paul (651) 293-1800]

It’s also helpful to know basic procedures like:
🐾 Pet CPR: Learn how to perform chest compressions and rescue breathing.
🐾 Bandaging: Practice wrapping wounds to stop bleeding or protect injuries.
🐾 Heimlich maneuver: Know how to help a choking pet.
Consider taking a pet first aid course or asking your vet for tips—it could save your pet’s life! And remember, first aid is not a substitute for veterinary care, so always follow up with your vet after an emergency.

🚫🌸 Lilies + Cats = A Dangerous Mix! 🐾⚠️

As beautiful as lilies are, they’re highly toxic to cats — even just brushing against the petals or licking a bit of pollen can lead to kidney failure.

With the holiday season in full swing and fresh flowers filling homes, make sure your festive arrangements are feline-friendly.

✅ Choose cat-safe alternatives like roses, orchids, or sunflowers
❌ Skip all lilies: Easter, Tiger, Asiatic, Day, and Stargazer lilies — they’re all dangerous

Let’s keep our furry friends safe and healthy this season!

April is Prevent Lyme Disease in Dogs Month, and it’s the perfect time to protect your pup from this serious tick-borne illness. 🐾🦠
Lyme disease is caused by bacteria transmitted through tick bites and can lead to symptoms like fever, joint pain, and lethargy. In severe cases, it can even affect the kidneys, heart, or nervous system. The good news? It’s preventable!

Here’s how you can keep your dog safe:
✅ Use vet-recommended tick prevention year-round.
✅ Check your dog for ticks after walks or outdoor play.
✅ Keep your yard tidy to reduce tick habitats.

If your dog needs tick prevention or if you want more information about the Lyme vaccine or Lyme prevention, give us a call! Let’s work together to keep your furry friend happy, healthy, and tick-free. 🐶💙
