The Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota (AERC) was established in 1980 by a group of veterinarians who wanted to provide their clients with quality veterinary care during non-business hours. Animal Emergency & Referral Center started out with one clinic, one veterinarian, and one technician! Over the years, our hospitals have grown, and we highly value the relationships we’ve built wit

h local veterinarians, pets and owners in the many communities we serve. Today, we employ a wide variety of doctors and health care team members – all specially trained in emergency and critical care--in addition to a growing referral practice for when your pet just isn't feeling like himself. Though we are an emergency practice and will never forget our roots, we are forging a future as the premier referral center in Minnesota. Critical Care, Internal Medicine (including our I-131 Treatment Facility for Hyperthyroid Cats,) Surgery & Rehab, Cardiology, Cancer Care, Dentistry & Oral Surgery, Dermatology, Neurology and Radiology are just some of the services your pets can receive when needed.

The event is a 45-minute movie screening about the loss of a beloved pet and the human-animal bond, and a 45-minute discussion with Cathy Wurzer, End in Mind Project Founder & Broadcaster, Ashley Mosher, Kristi Lehman, MSW, LISW, CCFP, Vice President of MN Pets, Nina Guertin, Pet Doula, and our own Heidi Brenegan, founder and facilitator of AERC's Pet Loss Support Group. The Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota (AERC) was established over 35 years ago by a group of veterinarians who wanted to provide their clients with quality veterinary care during non-business hours. Today, we employ a wide variety of veterinarians, board-certified specialists, and health care team members, all on-hand for when your pet just isn't feeling like himself. We’re proud to be the only locally-owned emergency and specialty hospital for pets in the state of Minnesota.

Having a sick or injured pet is stressful. We understand. Every doctor and every staff member here is a pet owner. Trust us to keep you informed about the care your pet receives at our center and to pay special attention to your needs as well. We promise to treat you and your pet with kindness, dignity, and respect.

In addition to providing good, old fashioned tender loving care, we’ve got your pet’s medical needs covered. Whether your pet has sustained traumatic injury, has a chronic illness, or is just not feeling well, we have the expertise and the technology for speedy diagnosis and quality care.
