At Apollo Vet, onboarding isn’t just about learning how we do things. It’s about investing in the doctor you’re becoming. 🩺

That’s why training and mentorship are built into how we practice.

We have a dedicated doctor on staff focused on helping our veterinarians continue to grow their clinical skills, whether you’re a brand-new grad or an experienced veterinarian who wants to keep expanding what you can do.

That can look like hands-on ultrasound training, working through challenging cases together, sharpening diagnostic skills, or building confidence in surgery.

And if you’re a new veterinarian joining Apollo? You’re paired with another vet in surgery until you’re fully comfortable operating on your own. There’s no arbitrary timeline and no expectation that you should already know everything.

Because mentorship shouldn’t end when onboarding does.

We want our doctors to keep learning, asking questions, practicing new skills, and becoming better clinicians throughout their careers.

One of the most common questions I get is, “When can we stop vaccinating our puppy?”

The answer for most puppies is 15–16 weeks of age.

Here’s why: puppies are born with antibodies from their mom that help protect them early in life. Those same antibodies can also block vaccines from working, which is why we don’t rely on just one puppy vaccine.

By continuing the vaccine series until 15–16 weeks, we have a high degree of confidence that those maternal antibodies have worn off. That means your puppy’s immune system can respond properly to the vaccine and build strong, long-lasting protection.

It’s not about giving “extra” vaccines, it’s about making sure the vaccines actually work.

Every puppy is a little different, so follow the schedule your veterinarian recommends and don’t skip those final boosters. They may be the most important ones.

Puppies don’t know the difference between a toy and your shoelaces, it’s our job to teach them.

If your puppy grabs your shoes, clothing, or laces:

🐶 Stay calm and avoid playing tug with them.
🦴 Redirect them to an appropriate chew toy.
👏 The second they choose the toy, reward them with praise or a treat.
⏰ Be consistent. Every repetition teaches them what is (and isn’t) okay to chew.

Remember, puppies aren’t trying to be stubborn, they’re learning through every interaction. The habits you reinforce today become the behaviors you live with tomorrow.

At Apollo Vet, all of our doctors receive ultrasound training because it helps us gather critical information quickly when pets are sick.

Whether we’re investigating vomiting, looking for bladder stones, checking for fluid in the abdomen, evaluating organs, or helping guide important medical decisions, ultrasound allows us to see what physical exams and bloodwork can’t always tell us.

That means:
✔ Faster answers
✔ Better-informed treatment plans
✔ Less waiting for pet owners
✔ Earlier detection of serious problems

Ultrasound isn’t the answer to every medical question, but it’s one of the most valuable diagnostic tools we have, and we believe every doctor should know how to use it.
