💙 4–5 Years Old | Sweet • Happy • Dog-Friendly

Say hello to Rocky! 🥰 This handsome little guy came to Wilton Animal Rescue after his family could no longer keep him where they were living. We don’t have much of his history, but his foster is getting to know him—and what we’re learning is pretty darn wonderful! ❤️

Rocky is a sweet, happy boy who loves being with his person. He gets along great with other dogs and has been a really easy guy to have around.

🏡 What does Rocky’s foster say about him?

✨ He does GREAT in his kennel and sleeps there all night without complaining.
✨ When his foster is cleaning, Rocky is perfectly content to relax on his bed and stay out of the way.
✨ He loves being near his person and wants to be part of whatever is happening.
✨ He gets along wonderfully with other dogs.
✨ He’s a smart little guy and is learning quickly!

And here’s one of our favorite things about Rocky… when he arrived, he only knew Spanish! Now he already knows “sit” and will come when asked most of the time. His foster is working on teaching him “down” next. 😍

Rocky isn’t particularly food-motivated or toy-motivated, so training him can be a little challenging—but he’s proving that he’s a quick learner anyway!

Rocky is looking for a family who will give him the patience, guidance, companionship, and love he deserves while he continues learning all about this next chapter of his life. 🐾💙

🐾 SPECIAL FOSTERS NEEDED — HELP THEM COME OUT OF THEIR SHELL! 🐾

We have several very special dogs at Wilton Animal Rescue who are looking for something they desperately need: a patient foster willing to help them learn to trust people again. ❤️

These dogs are wonderful with Carol and Leon, who are with them at the Rescue. They know them, trust them, and feel safe with them. But when it comes to people they don’t know, they have a difficult time opening up.

And that’s where YOU can make a life-changing difference. 🥹❤️

We are looking for fosters who understand that this isn’t about expecting a dog to instantly become your best friend. It’s about giving them time, patience, consistency, and a safe environment where they can slowly build confidence.

Maybe it starts with sitting quietly in the same room.

Maybe it’s taking treats from your hand.

Maybe it’s the first time they choose to come closer to you.

And eventually… maybe it’s that first tail wag, first cuddle, or the moment they finally realize, “I’m safe here.” 🐶❤️

These dogs don’t need someone to “fix” them.

They need someone willing to believe in them.

Each one has their own personality, history, and pace. But they all have one thing in common: they deserve the opportunity to discover how good life with a loving person can be.

A foster home could be the bridge between the life they know now and the forever home they are waiting for. ❤️

You don’t have to be a dog trainer or an expert. What we need most is someone who is patient, compassionate, consistent, and willing to let these dogs set the pace.

NO SLEEP, but a lot of tears! Leon and i are stepping back for a few days. This one is extremely hard for all of us. Please understand- we need a moment to re-group after the loss of Gammy. She mattered to all of us, huge, huge loss!! Prayers for our dear friends: Sue and Lisa ♥️

This is grandma a.k.a. Gammy a.k.a. Gabby - call her which ever name you want as long as you had a treats, you were friends. Gabby took a long time to trust people. She stayed here for two years, trying to acclimate into our rescue. She made some strides and then she’d go backwards.

A year ago Sue and Lisa took Gabby into their home, and that’s when things started to change. She learned how to use the doggie door from her brother who recently passed away. She learned to be a part of a family and wanted to be around humans although you couldn’t really touch her until today.

We got to Sue and Lisa’s house at 7am to get Gabby ready for her spay appointment. Since Gabby was aloof and not able to trust people we tricked her using the doggie door. Gabby let me pet her while she was on Sue’s bed, and once she was comfortable enough - we picked her up and put her in a crate and off we went to Country Oaks Vet in Galt.

We went to pick Gabby up around 245pm and that’s when they let us know that Gabby wasn’t doing that well. They had her on heating blankets and they were preparing to do further testing. After we went home, we received a call from Dr. Booth, that Gabby had passed away.

That was some of the most devastating news ever. Gabby was continuing to flourish in her new home and was about to finish the final steps for adoption. We received that dreaded call around 3:30ish this afternoon that Gabby had passed despite CPR and a round of Epi.

The hardest part was going to sue and Lisa’s house to let them know that Gabby had moved on and crossed that rainbow bridge. We have to say we were completely shocked. None of us saw this coming, but yet we know when it’s our time we will go peacefully.

We want to thank everybody who touched Gabby’s heart and her life. Her life was full of turmoil and whoever dumped her and left her in those sticker bushes. Just know she was loved and treated so well the last few years of her life that the cruel memories you inflicted in her were changed with love and understanding.

Gabby, we love you - Sue and Lisa Leon and I will see you on the other side!! We love you, Gabby! Thank you for allowing us the time you spent in our lives. We will never forget you. You were one tough cookie and you never should’ve had the life you did as a young dog.

Hopefully Sue and Lisa will share some of their photos with everyone. Gabby was a good girl and she was loved beyond measure! Rest in peace our little Gabby!

Gabby was found stuck in bushes, she was removed by a homeless lady who was bitten several times by Gabby’s quickness. Gabby was trapped and brought to Wilton Animal Rescue where she was learning how to trust people. For some dogs that’s just not a very easy task.

Mange, toenails that curled under her paws, missing over 1/2 her fur.
What we do isn’t for every rescue, and a lot of people say why not put her down. If there is a dog that is trapped by our rescue, we do everything in the world to allow them a place in the world with kindness and care. No matter how long it takes. There’s no timeframe on healing an abused and neglected dog! The last memory shouldn’t be about pain, neglect, or abuse. It should be about love and there is no timeframe on love!!

Thank you, Lisa And Sue - you are amazing and the kindest people we know! Know that because of you, Gabby experienced a better life and knew unconditional love. Look at those photos - the first photo was Gabby when we went out to trap her. She was stuck in the briar bush needles and a homeless woman went to get her out and was bit. Once she dropped her Gabby walked into the trap to go to WAR.
For those fools who even dare to say we are hoarders - well, let me show you how rescue really is!
Rescue is patience, it’s unconditional love, and it all takes time.
Thank you, Country Oaks Vet hospital, Dr Booth who is amazing, and your amazing staff. We always know when we bring in the feral and semi-feral pets, they receive the best care and unconditional love.

Since we’re going to be getting a new insurance company. 

WAR will be increasing our trapping team to 20 people from various towns. If you are interested, please let us know.

We will be holding a training seminar here at WAR. 
Our mission statement is about taking in dogs in and around our community that “WAR” has traps. You will be paired up initially with a trapper, and you will need to be signed off so that we cover all the basics. We work with the shelters, never against them.

Here is an update on the mama that had 15 puppies; 13 of them are still alive and doing well. The pups are five weeks old and mama is gaining weight. She stays away from them most of the day and just lounges on the lawn. She’s a really good dog and a really great mom.

Enjoy the photos. If you’re interested in one of our pups, please make sure you feel out an application. They will be ready for new homes at eight weeks old at the beginning of September; just a few weeks away.

Hey everyone, as you know, we’re always full, but I’m looking for a Foster for these dogs. Mama is in heat and the male is intact. We need to get them off the corner of Highway 4 and Jack Tone Road is there anybody willing to foster them. We want to get her fixed right away before we have more puppies on the streets. This is not a good situation at all. They’ve been out there for four months. If you’re willing to share your home (foster) with these dogs; please let me know. We will get them picked up and to the vet. We will provide everything medical kennel. Crate whatever you need.
Please let us know as soon as possible!
