LONG POST, but when you commit to a horse, this is what you do. You don’t just dump them on someone else or put them in a bad situation. Shortly after we purchased G-Man (“A Gun Show” by Gunner x A Smart Whiz), as a 4 year old, we had trouble keeping him comfortable for Campbell to show. G won the youth derby at the Cactus Classic, reserve Champion youth reining at the Redbud AQHA show, qualified for the youth World, showed twice at the NRHA Derby, and won money in derbies at High Roller Reining and Reining by the Bay, he won a bronze, saddle and buckles. But after a couple of years and too many injections, we knew being a competitive Reiner was too much for him. After numerous failed attempts to find something he could do, when we moved to Texas, we found the best vet that finally helped G. Late last year he was sound enough to be paired up with Lannie, a student from North Central Texas College, who went on to show him on the equestrian team in trail, reining, ranch riding, and cow horse! And now G has found his new forever home - 10 years after our commitment to him to ensure he didn’t end up in the wrong hands. And no surprise his favorite event is taking a cow down the fence!
