This guy is coming around very nicely! 🐎
He’s been pretty hard to catch in the pasture, so we’ve been going back to the basics and focusing on gaining control of those feet. Once the feet start moving, the brain starts engaging, and that’s when the learning really happens.
The goal is to help him understand that being with people is the resting place. We’re already seeing some good progress, and hopefully before long we’ll have a lot less drama when it comes time to catch him in the pasture. 👍

Sometimes time off is the best thing for a young horse.
I’m not talking about inconsistent work — I mean when you’ve had a solid couple of months where they’ve been working well, but you can feel them starting to get a little stuck or frustrated with the pressure. Sometimes giving them a 1–2 week reset can make all the difference in their work ethic and willingness.
This filly has been easy to start. Every task I give her, she rises to it. But she’s always had a bit of a sticky “go” button. Because of that, I’ve really focused on keeping the cue clear: smooch, leg, and if I have to, a light tap with the rein.
Before I left, I felt like she understood it, but she was a little testy about it.
She’s had nearly three weeks off, and yesterday it all clicked for her. The break did her wonders. She truly understood — no confusion, no baby meltdown moments — just a happy, confident horse doing her job.
Sometimes the best thing we can do for them is simply step back and give them time to process.

Best kind of day 💛
Letting the good horse graze while the baby horse learns a little patience (and some tying practice).
Slow moments, sunshine, and young ones figuring things out one lesson at a time. 🐎🌾
