It’s a beautiful morning here on the farm! So dry here in AZ. It’s been months since we’ve gotten any rain. It’s tried a few times but only sprinkled at best. In February I let the Bucks out to pasture to eat whatever native weeds/grasses were growing. There was quite a bit, but as you can see now there’s basically nothing but dirt out there. Praying we finally get a good Monsoon season this year!

Finally coming into the final stretch for this kidding season! 3 Does left to kid, 2 are due around June 19th and last one due around July 4th.

1. Rancho de San Isidro Rosalinda is a first freshener bred to my polled buck LAME Acres Spartacus (due June 17th). Rosalinda has 100% Goldthwaite lines so I’m excited to see what she does. Spartacus comes from my Doe Lorelai who has always been my highest milk producer and longest lactations for these last few years. So he should add some good high production genetics to this kidding. Hoping for some polled doelings🤞🏼

2. Gilly’s Forever Sweet Lorelai is bred to
my young buck C&W Farm Blue Cupid. He’s got Noel’s Comet and Lucky King as his Grand Sires on each side, so I expect great things from this buck! Along with Lorelai’s high milk production and long lactations these kids should be amazing! I’ve been milking Lorelai for 2 yrs straight and with once a day milking she has still been giving me 10-12 cups a da. It’s bee about impossible to dry her up to prepare her for kidding. She still have a super full udder and she’s due to kid again on June 19th. I have stopped milking her but hope it gives her body enough time to prepare for this kidding. This is Lorelai’s 3rd freshening

3. Last to kid will be my Polled Doe LAME Acres Lacey bred to LAME Acres Flash.
Lacey is a 3rd freshener and she’s huge and very uncomfortable! She had triplets her first kidding and twins her second. I’m wondering how many she has in there this time 😬. Line bred her back to my original Doe who was a Noel’s Comet Grand daughter, Crow’s Dairy Rhonda was easily a 2 gallon a day producer and would keep producing for 2 yrs straight! And then also this is a line breeding back to Crow’s Dairy Owen who was also a Noel’s Comet Grandson. And I’m hoping for some polled doelings from this kidding as well. I always seem to get polled bucklings, but not many doelings🙃

Super excited to get this update on a Polled Buck of mine that I sold a few years ago. He was sold to a 4H family as a yearling buck after I used him for 1 season and then they sold him to another 4H family last year when they relocated to Texas. I retained one of his polled Sons (L.A.M.E. Acres Spartacus) who I still have . I’ll attach the update and pic of Maximus at the SADGA Show this past weekend. So excited Maximus did so well and placed at the top of both his classes on Sunday. He got Reserve Grand Champion best of Breed and Grand Champion Best of Breed.

Thanks so much to his current Owners: Candyland Ranch Show Goats for this exciting update on L.A.M.E. Acres Maximus

He’s matured so nicely! And he’s such a sweet boy!

Yesterday was a sad day on the farm! We had to say goodbye to one of our original LGD’s. Ranger was 9 1/2 yrs old and we got him as a little puppy when we moved to this property along with our female Winnie. They have been a pair since the beginning and they have been the most amazing guardians you could ever ask for.
Ranger was perfectly fine and acting normal Tuesday evening when I went to feed everyone. He ate his food and was his good old self. But when I went out yesterday morning to feed and he was no where around like he normally is waiting for his breakfast I went looking for him. I found him laying in one of the buck shelters and he couldn’t get up. I thought maybe he had been bit by a rattler or something but once our Vet came out and checked him over we couldn’t find any signs of a bite or swelling anywhere. He thinks he had a cardiac episode and it was his heart failing. So we left him for a bit to see what he did and our vet was going to come back in the afternoon if needed to put him down. Well sadly around 3pm or so Ranger passed on his own. He didn’t seem to be in any pain but I still feel bad he might of suffered until he did pass. Our vet was on his way to the Spay and Neuter clinic at the Humane Society when we called him so he stopped by quickly on his way there to check Ranger over and he had no meds or anything with him when he came. He was going to come back after he finished at the Clinic but Ranger had just passed.

So here’s to you Old Boy, you will surely be missed and hard to replace! Poor Old Winnie is going to miss her best buddy😭 You were the best gentle giant and loved to watch over all the bay goats each year while Winnie would go out and guard the perimeter. Thank you for your service Ranger! 💙💔

Does anyone have a troublemaker like this? Veteran’s Thunder Lady is quite the character! She’s got a big personality and is so funny but when it’s time to eat her grain on the stand she drives me crazy! She’s very picky about what grain she will eat and turns her nose up to what she doesn’t like. But no matter what she has in her grain bucket at some point during milking if I’m not watching her like a hawk this is what she will do every day and wastes all her grain by dumping it on the ground 🤦🏻‍♀️ So most days I just put alittle grain on the milk stand itself and she has to eat it off there.

This weekend the outside goat pens got a much overdue and needed deep cleaning! My husband finally had a spare moment to use his skid steer to haul out all the extra hay and goat poo that I just can’t keep up on using a rake and wheel barrow. I spend about an hour a day cleaning the inside pens and what I can on the outside area but it’s still not enough. It’s always so nice to see them all clean and fresh, unfortunately it only lasts for a day before the goats ruin that! 🙃I had a girl last year come twice a week to help do the extra pen cleaning but since December I’ve been trying to do it all myself and with kidding season etc and now milking 10 Does I just can’t do it all. I think I’ve found someone else who can come a few hours a week to help out and that will be such a relief for sure 😅🥳

Clara delivered yesterday evening with guess what???? Twin Bucklings 🙃 I was really hoping for a doeling out of this, but no just boys again! This was a repeat breeding from last year to LAME Acres Flash, she had twin bucklings from him last year as well. Had a friend from Kentucky who really wanted a doeling from this pairing but no such luck this year. 😕 This brings my buckling count to 15 for the season. I have a break til 3rd week of June and then I have 3 Does due then. Really hope for some Doelings out of them 🤞🏼

So Clara had the first boy quickly. It took her a bit before she had the 2nd. One back hoof was out for awhile with no progress. So I had to go in and find the other back hoof and get it out. From there she kept trying to push through each set of contractions but couldn’t get the butt out. Had to help pull alittle til his butt got past the birthing canal and then as you can see at the end of the video he came flying out. Not the prettiest delivery with him flopping to the ground but he was fine. Lol
