🚨 Emergency Puppy Visit! 🚨

This sweet little pup came to us after getting into some chocolate and while it may seem like just a tasty treat to us, chocolate is actually toxic to dogs. 😟

🍫 Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, both of which dogs can’t metabolize like humans can. These substances can cause serious symptoms such as vomiting, rapid heart rate, tremors, seizures, or worse.

👩‍⚕️🐾 Because of how recently the chocolate was eaten, we acted quickly and induced vomiting to help prevent further absorption of the toxins. This can be a critical step in avoiding more severe health issues.

We're happy to report this pup is doing well but let this be a reminder to keep chocolate safely out of paws’ reach, especially with curious little ones around!

If you think your pet has eaten something dangerous, call Oakcrest Pet Hospital or the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Wichita immediately. Minutes can make a big difference. ❤️🐶

🎆 Fireworks Are Coming! Help Your Dog Stay Calm! 🐾

The Fourth of July is just around the corner, and while we love the celebration, many of our furry friends don't feel the same way. Loud fireworks can cause serious stress and anxiety for dogs, it could be a ruff night for them. 🐶💥

If your dog gets nervous during fireworks, now is the time to plan ahead. Some pets may need medication to stay calm, and in some cases, an exam or a trial run of the medication may be necessary to ensure the right dosage.

📞 Call or text us at 316-722-4828 to schedule an appointment or request medication.

Let’s make this Independence Day safe and as stress-free as possible for your four-legged family members! ❤️💙🐾

🚨 Tick Season Alert! 🚨

Tick season is officially here, and this sweet boy came in just in time for a little help. He had a tick hitching a ride! 🐶🪱

Ticks aren’t just a nuisance, they can carry serious diseases like Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, and more, depending on the species. That’s why it’s so important to check your pets regularly and stay on flea and tick prevention all year long.

We safely removed this one and gave him lots of love and treats after. 💙

Can you identify the tick in the picture below? Drop your guess in the comments!

Sweet Oliver came to see Dr. Ocampo for a check-up after his parents noticed he was coughing. He was such a good boy for his X-rays, we couldn’t be prouder! 🩻💙

Some patients just make the whole process a breeze, and Oliver was one of them.
