One of the most common issues we see in dogs are partial cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) tears. This is when the knee stabilizer ligament is frayed or damaged but not completely severed. This can lead to intermittent limping, joint stiffness after rest, and a high risk of progressing to a full tear. Full tears almost always need surgery. For partial tears there are many options to help prevent the need for surgery.
-Strict rest for several weeks
-Laser and shockwave therapy
- Physical therapy and underwater treadmill
-Herbal ligament supplements
-Custom braces to help stabilize (model Francis)
- Intra-articular injections like platelet rich plasma or arthramid hydrogel

Happy Rehab Graduation Ted!! 🏅 🐾

Ted had a TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) back in April. He healed well, but was still not fully using the leg. Ted has worked hard over the last 5 weeks to complete his rehabilitation plan. His treatments included rehab exercises, laser therapy, at home exercise/massage and hydrotherapy. Ted has gained back muscle and is back to normal activity!
